I knew a guy quite a few years back that had one of those VW pickups that had a mid engine 327 in it. Quite a sleeper if you do it correctly.Bug

Welcome to CHR site and man that is one very nice project and what you have accomplished so far is excellent, love it also. It looks like you started with a very clean VW body wise, and I could imagine twin pipes (exhaust) simalar to the original out the back. I will be following along with your build as I too love the old VW's.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Thanks for the nice remarks. Yeah, this was a California car I bought some years ago that my youngest son and I were going to build. It had a blown engine and trannie and said in a grarage her in Missouri for about 5 years. I bought it, we totally disassembled it and it sat in my garage for about another 12-15 years. Both sons are married, have kids and live in two different states. I told my wife, now I am going to build it the way I want it. Oughta be a good little grocery getter for her, huh? Here are a couple of pictures of another '69 VW that my oldest boy, who will be 38 this year, built when he was a senior in high school. It is powered by a reworked, 4cylinder Porsche engine. Quick little ride,. Yep, I have that in my garage too.

Hell I want a ride in that thing when it's done.
Use to hang out w/a guy about 15yrs ago(we were in Gateway VW Club together) that had a 10sec street legal white 67 Beetle(2400cc mtr) and a red 63 Notchback w/a built mtr also.
He would run the beetle over at Gateway & do 1/8 mile wheelies in that all steel bug.
If you didn't pay attention to when he was shifting that thing would send you to the chiropractor.Donate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

LMAO........
No it wasn't Al, but he is a character in his own right.
I use to know some of those primadonnas, God I hated "cliques".
No I was talking about a guy named Elo, haven't seen nor talked to him in years.
Myself and several others quit the VW Club just before the Benton Show at the racetrack down there.
We seen what was happening & wanted no part of it.
I was the events chairman at the time but had nothing to do w/the show so I quit.
Haven't been in a car/truck club since.
Well I take that back, for a while I considered myself a member of the "Honkers" car club.
It had no dues, one meeting a year & EVERYBODY was President, it even said that on the Club Jackets....joeDonate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

Wow! Now that's a fine looking project. Your frame and sheetmetal work look exceptional so far. Looks like you has a really solid candidate to start with, too.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
