Hi everyone, Vince here, currently stationed in Afghanistan. New to this site and the Hot Rod Community. When I return from this deployment (maybe sooner if I can find the right shop) I plan on starting a new project.
Since I was a kid I've always wanted a hot rod and now that I'm in the position to start looking at them I'm leaning towards a 37 Ford Oze Roadster, Hardtop coupe, or Slamback. I like all 3 for different reasons and can't decide which one to go with. Ultimately like most things in life my decision will be made by practicallity and $$$.
The 37 I want to build will be meant to be driven (i.e. most weekends, and sometimes during the week when the weather is nice). With that said I will be more focused on ride, interior comfortability, and engine performance as opposed to an expensive paint job and a show room interior. I'm open to any ideas, recommendations, or shop referrals you fellas might have.
I look forward to interacting with all of you and eating up all your information posted on here.

buy a finished one , they are cheap to buy vs build right now . i have done 6 of them and i would recomend to buy a finished car .

Welcome to CHR and thank you for your service to your country. KennyD builds some awesome rides, and he gives good advice, too. My '33 is in the interior/paint stage now as a driver, and if I would be time and money ahead if I had bought a finished car vs building. Not that I did not enjoy the build, but the economy has prices deflated now. Look for one you like and see what kind of deal you can make to buy it when you come home.

He wouldn't necessarily have to be looking at finished cars for a great deal vs. building. You could find a nearly complete car so that you can finish up the work and do it with your own style. That might likely turn into a full blown project anyway though

If you are wanting to build. And want to end up with a driver! I would be looking at the Factory 5 33.

Hey getting advice already, I love it! Thanks for tips. Any suggestions on sites, or shops that are selling them. I've already checked some of the more populary websites (i.e. Autotrader,Cars.com, Ebay) and a few others.
I'm also open to the idea of buying an unfinished project as well. Any directions to guide me in would be very much appreciated. Thanks to you all.

Kenny is right, there is no way a person can duplicate a car for what you can pick up one that is already done. Almost everyone takes a bath when they sell one, compared to what they invested.

I've been watching Barrett Jackson and the prices most of these cars are going for wouldn't buy a person the parts, chroming, and paint. For example, they are selling off Danny Gans collection (Las Vegas entertainer, died last year) and the prices they were getting were shockingly low IMO. True, the super rare, very desirable cars are still bringing 6 figures and beyond, but I'm talking about everyday, but very nice cars that a person could drive and enjoy.

Anyone on here who builds their own stuff knows how much money we lay out, not only for the actual car itself, but consumables, tools, etc. Sure, there is that cool factor of saying "I built it myself", but there is nothing wrong with buying a done or almost done car and making changes to make it your own.

Are you saying that the Factory Five '33 is the new street beast, i.e. they will not have value in the future because of their approach?

they are junk , just like street beast cars are . dont ever buy either !

Welcome Vince and also allow me to thank-you for your service for not only the USA but for all of the people around the world who enjoy the free world that we are wanting.
I purchased my T Bucket as a completed road legal car and used it for a year before tearing it down for a rebuild to improve and make it more mine to the stage the original builder didn't recognise it and it is now has alot of money invested in it but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hey Vince, welcome to CHR!!! If you're patient and diligent in searching for a project car that someone else has given up on it will save you a bunch of $$$$$. Got someone around home that could actualyy do a see-feel-touch on potential candidate cars????

A search on eBay for project cars is another place to look, also a lot of guys having been coming up with some killer deals on Craigslist...just check for the area you have a trusted accomplice (er, friend) who could check the car out. Be wary though, there are scammers all over the net trying to relieve you of your $$$$$! I wouldn't buy anything until someone trusted can put their eyeballs on it!
