1957 ford custom coupe from the netherlands

yo guys,

i´m rico from rotterdam,holland´and i just got me a original 57 ford custom tudor.

the 57´is since 1990 here in hollland and is completely restaurated last year.

it´s got the original 223 six cylinder ,mathing numbers .

the body it's restyled en repainted in colonial white with soft yellow .

it's still got the original wheels and set up and beg's for a slammed OG look .

it's got a pioneer din dvd player with bluetooth ,six speakers in the car en and 2 basswoofers in the trunk ,alarm system and automatic doorlocks ..

the coupe is restored in it's original style but i want to built her more LIKE A HOT ROD OR LIKE A OG CRUISER STYLE WITH A BADAZZ APPEARANCE..

my plans for the future contains out of 2 ideas wich í can't decided yet ..

first idea is :a OG cruiser style

fender skirts
14 or 15 inch chrome wires or supreme's
lake pipes
disc brakes
flake paintjob
power steering (because my 57'' originally don't have this options )
a performance ford V8 and slammed ..

second idea is a real hot rod look :
big wheels
rack and pinion disc brake conversion
power steering (because my 57'' originally don't have this options )
a performance ford V8 and heavily lowered ..

take a look and i hope you like my old skool 57'' custom tudor and maybe you can tell me what kind of custom style suits te 57'' the best...

the search for this parts are here in holland rather difficult, ..so if you guys have ideas or comments please tell ...!!

That is a beautiful 57. I like the lowered with fender skirts look:cool:, but the final choice will of course have to be yours.:):)

Lowered with the skirts,or without the skirts,all look good,also because its such a nice old car,,I would leave it stock...your choice,,but to me,it would be a shame to go any further than that..a good old style cruiser without bags,just lowered springs..its kool...

I had a 64 Ford Galaxie (same basic front suspension as your 57) that I put a power rack & pinion conversion kit on. Made a huge difference in how the car drove and allows you to keep most of the original suspension. I got the kit from http://www.wurthitdesigns.com/ It was a good kit but the guy was slow and a little flakey about getting the kit to me. He has some nice 57's on it site, too. Check it out.

Welcome to CHR. We have folks from all over the world here.

I like that '57. To me, I like them lowered and with 15" custom wheels (dislike the original 14" wheels). I'm not a fan of fender skirts, but of course, it's your car and your choice

I would drop it, shave the Ford emblems, Lancer hubcaps, skirts, tube grille, Lee tail lights, and paint it a solid color. What a solid car to start with. :)

i'm very happy with her ...

does somebody know some adresses for parts ,wheels (like the supreme's for instance)and does anybody know wich v8 i can put in and still use the fordomatic tranny cause it's shifts like a dream now.
i think i must search for a FE engine,but there are some georgius crate engines on the market with some serieus power output ..but i don't know wich engine willl fitt in the 57..

As far as engine/transmissions for that car, the sky is the limit:D The engine bay is pretty big. I would not try to keep the Fordomatic though as most larger horsepower engines will "kill" it fairly quickly, particularly if it is set for a six cylinder - plus it might not bolt to a V8 (I've forgotten my Ford bell housing patterns).

What are you limited to in Holland as far as vehicle modifications is another point. I know that some European countries will not allow major changes. Next point is what will your wallet handle as far as costs. We can make all kinds of suggestions, but the item price plus shipping plus customs duties can be prohibitive.

Wow, you've got a beautiful '57 and I really like the look now. If you're set on changing it I like the lowered, no skirt look better - just my preference, but to me a hardtop (no post) compliments the line of skirts more than a post sedan. I believe that Dave (IC2) has given you very good advice about the Fordomatic tranny - I would think it would have a short life with any higher output crate engine.

Now that I look at the two pictures I agree with Roger, no skirts look better. I also wouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater, I would consider keeping that 6 and modifying it. I understand you may want more hp, so that would be a good reason for an engine swap, but 6's have gained respect and lots of guys are putting 2 and 3 carbs on them, dual exhaust, and stuff like that. Split exhaust on a 6 has a great, unique sound, and when you pop the hood people in the know will love it. Just an opinion.

Now that's a great idea, IMO. Also, just noticed the reversed shackles on the rear springs, shades of the early 60's :3dSMILE: Flipping those back to stock will drop the back a couple of inches or more, but I like the stance now.

come on guys, nothing can beat the sound and the torque of a mad rumbling V8 ,from idle to peak rpm ,i don´t know about you guys but it´s giving me goosebumbs each time i hear one...

the slant six is nice and original but much to sweet and a american classic has to have a V8,even my DAILY DRIVER a 1994 F150 flareside from texas showtrucks has a 302 under the hood ..and give´s me a smile each time i fired it up ..

everything will fit in there .. i`ve seen 428 cobra motors in them .. i thought i had a picture of one but i cant find it ..

Oh heck - why not go for broke!!! A 351W out to 392 or 427, a Tremec TKO 5 speed running back to the existing 9" and a set of 3.70 or 3.89 gears. But then, a 460 based Ford Motorsports 521 could be better yet:LOL::LOL:

i got plans for my FLARESIDE next year to ...

completely murdered out with the black 18's in the front and the black 20's in the back with a fat chrome lip and lowered all around ..

it's got 60.000mls on the odometer and the interieur is heavily modified from texas showtrucks from the factory so no need to do something about that .

Nice Ford,
Think I've seen on another site. Dropped spindles are available. Put the rear shackles
back the proper way. I'd get the stance right before you buy wheels and tires.
Any FE will bolt in and will bolt to the Fordo with a F-1 convertor. I ran a Ford o matic
behind a 427 Ford and it held up fine. A C-6 will also fit with a little change on the
rear mount. Stock Rad will work also. May have to change the outlet location.
You'll ned headers or the flat manifolds. F.P.A. makes ready made headers for it.
I have a 429 in mine now.Pretty large engine. My car has had every kind of Ford motor
in it through the years. Have Fun

we don´t have a lot of guys here in holland that know´s a lot of the old fords..

is it a problem iff we stay in touch so i can ask you some questions and guidance over the build since you dropped about every engine in your ranchero and suspension?

Welcome! You may want to check this out: www.fordsix.com I moderate the 1952-56 Ford group on the HAMB and several members have built the 215 and 223 Ford sixes and parts are out there to build them or you could drop a 5.0 and AOD in it like I did in my '54 which is an EZ swap.

This I like it but I'm partial here to 57 ford especially custom owned several over the years this I drive daily rain snow doesn't matter. Disc brakes front come from a Granada early 70 I think been long time a little drimmel work on on ball joint fits right in. Mine has a 605 chevy steering box converted from a 57 chevy update work great. Now a days other options. Mine runs a 63 406 with dual quad and t-10 four speed.
