What non G.M. engine will fit where a 350 used to live
I am very early into the build of my 1931 model A roadster pick-up. I purshased this vehicle from someone else who had started it, then lost interest. He had modified the firewall and installed a 350/350chevy with an H.E.I., which I didn't get with the deal. Now, I have always used Chev V8 engines in my past hotrods, but would like to try something a bit different this time around. I will be running cross-steering with a Vega box, and want to keep the stock Model A hood top, (not lengthened), and I still want an Automatic transmission, and don't want to perform any more surgery to the firewall. I will not be running hood sides. My question is, what other production V8 engine with automatic transmission will fit into my engine-room, with modifications being made only to the engine and tranny mounts. There is no exhaust system yet, so that's not an issue, however I will want to run stock manifolds and fab my own dual exhaust. There is a radiator with integral tranny cooler currently in the car, which I will use. I am hoping for something carburated, with points or HEI type self contained ignition, no computer, and hopefully readily available at auto wreckers. I will not be rebuilding this engine, just clean, paint, and install.(I would like equal or greater power than a stock 350) Any suggestions?

I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
