Anything that turns money into speed, noise and horsepower - it's a hot rod for sure!
Big day tomorrow!!! The Vello gets her heart.
My son will be helping me install the SBC.
Nice power plant
OK... it's in!!!! Took a little help from my son Nick and his fiance' Channing, who took the pics. Fits like a glove. The JTR people sure have the bugs worked out of this procedure. The SBC 350 slid in sooo easily.
I little massaging to the transmission tunnel and everything bolts up tight.
Great job on the install! Looks like it was built that way!
That's going to be one fine ride that will be a heck of a lot easier to maintain than the original Ferrari engine design!
This is never really going to be settled, since there is no authority recognized by everyone.
Actually the magazines... the "internet of the ancient times"... debated this for years, and eventually a rough outline developed to describe a hot rod, street rod, street machine, muscle car, pro street, and so on.
All of that was already taking place, before NSRA even existed. They came along in 1970, and were following the "common understanding" already developed by involved enthusiasts then.
Things remained generally that way for about the next 30 years, until younger or newer enthusiasts started to reject the definition.
I suspect that the common interpretation of "hot rod", as it was understood by people who had been out side the hobby, did not include the "by year, and build style" classifications that long term enthusiasts had already "settled on".
Nothing ever stays the same, so change will come no matter who thinks they had already solved the issue.
Thats certainly looks at home in that engine bay and so good it fell into place without trouble. You will be biting at the bit now to get it running for that first drive. It is looking cool and don't worry too much on what some people think of it,it is yours, you build it,you drive it so enjoy the thrill of it.;)
Minor Progress. Chrome pulleys and alternator installed.
looking great
I have mixed feelings. I see three terms being thrown out alot, and they are used depending the circle your in. One is "Street Rod" then there is "Hot Rod" and finally "Muscle Car". My opinion that cars in the 50's and older with modified engines, cool paint, modern running gear are "Street Rods." Car restored somewhat to original form but a beefed up original type engine or maybe parts from similar makes thrown together would be a "Hot Rod". And finally cars in the 60's to present fast and furious would be considered "Muscle Car" catagory. Just my opinion.. What you have will make one sweet ride whatever you call it. ~robert
if some say it doesnt qualify as a hot rod, dont worry about them. it will for sure qaulify as a great bad mood eliminator when finished.
Lookin' clean and nice! Nothing wrong with minor progress, better then no progress at all! Gonna be one nice Hot Rod when it's done!!!!
BTW, if it's got lots of modifications and goes fast in a big hurry, it's a Hot Rod!!!!! All the classification stuff isn't necessary for a lot of us!
looks cool to me! not some bellybutton sports car for cruize night. Build it, drive it, and if someone says it isnt a hotrod, blow there doors off!

I added a few accessories for the holiday season.
Too much??:o
its a hot rod to me.
looking at your last post, it looks like you got a hot rod under your christmas tree. what a cool present.
Finally got around to working on the dash again. Attached a couple of compilation pics from start to its current state in red primer. It's not perfect, but with a little fine tuning it can be painted to match the exterior, if I decide to go that route.
Wow that came out great! Way to save the old dash pad.
Back in the car with all her guts stuffed back inside. Center console is next.
Don't need an ashtray... but can't go without cup holders.
I have to say you do nice work. Great 'HOT ROD " project
Interior is really coming out nice!!!! Some really great work!
Your making working with glass look easy! Nice job!:D
that looks really professional. great job.
I'm still short on cabbage for parts. I don't want to loose the momentum I've build up in the last month, so I'll keep working on the little body mods that don't cost much in materials.
The lower round vents on the bonnet aren't deep enough for my taste, so I spent a little time this last weekend extending them.
The process was pretty straight forward. I taped an empty plastic potato salad bucket inside the vent to form a mold. I wrapped cloth fiberglass strips around until I got the thickness I wanted.
I'll trim them at the back and shape / blend the front openings later.
the dash and console look to be professionally done. thats how all my finished projects look in my head at the beginning, but always seem to lose something in the translation from head to hands. nice work tho.
dwayne i know exactly what you mean. mine never turn out like i think they will either.
Nice day, and since I only worked 'till noon, I did a little filling and sanding. A little light weight filler then I'll trim the back to length.
I was able to spend a good chunk of money today on parts from Summit Racing. Several are on back order, so I'll continue working on the small body mods while I'm waiting.
Continued to round out the lower vents. They're not quite finished yet, but they're close enough to the look I'm aiming for, to get a little primer.
I'm going to extend the "sugar scoops" 1 1/2 to 2 inches under the hood in the same way. I like the 3D look the extra depth adds.
WOW!!! Summit Racing is serious about getting orders out quickly. I put the order in at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, and everything that was in stock arrived by 12:00 noon today. And that was using UPS regular ground delivery!
I guess when racing is actually part of the business' name, you gotta be fast.
I can't stop staring at my shiny engine... it just barely fits under the hood.
You're quite the fabricator. That's some very nice work. :)
Summit has always been next day for me, as long as I get my order in before 3 p.m. I usually get my parts the following morning, I guess part of it is where we live, but it also has to do with how fast Summit processes orders. They are an outstanding company as far as I'm concerned. If you ever get a chance to run up to the Summit store in Reno area, it's worth the drive. It's funny how small the store front is, compared to the building itself. It's huge! I think all of our orders usually ship from there. If they don't have it, then it takes a bit longer to get them!
I get my usual Summit stuff from their Ohio home store - usually the second day, but occasionally it's the next, especially if they ship FedEx
It's funny how the big ticket item in my order, the carb, took about 2 minutes to install. But the cheapest item, the universal throttle cable, took me the better part of the afternoon and evening to configure and install. I tend to procrastinate when I have to cut something to length and I only have one of them to work with.
Still needs return springs and a little pedal adjustment.
I hear you on the cutting part. It's one thing when you can go to the store and get a new one, quite another when you need 2-3 days for mail order plus the added cost of shipping. I used a Lokar universal kit for my truck. They are great but expensive, and in my case was missing one of the adjuster nuts, so the cable would get stuck in the wide open throttle position. It took a while to figure out what was wrong, but summit was great about sending a new one, even though a few months had gone by since I had purchased it. These kits are also expensive so one cut too short is a expensive mistake!
I had to laugh about the expense vs. ease of install too! It always seems the stuff you dump tons of money into, is the stuff, that slaps right on.
I hear you about cutting to length. The throttle shaft is my solid piece, but the kick-down and cruise control cables are Lokar as is the e-brake system:

....and of course, minimal photos or instructions from Lokar
