New Guy!!
Just Stumbled Onto This Forum, Thought I'd Give It A Try.
I'm From Southern Illinois, Not Too Far From St.louis. I Have A '50 Chevy Fastback That Is In The Process Of Being Sub-framed, And I Just Aqquired A '63 Impala, Didn't Mean To, It Just Kinda Happened!!
Man, Has It Been A Long Time Since I Messed With Points!! I'm Remembering More And More Everytime I Open The Hood.
Does Anyone Know A Good Site Where I Can Get All Of The Tuneup Specs? I Remember Some, Like Gappin' The Plugs At .035, And I Think The Points Are .018?! I Need Some Reassurance! I'm Havin' A Ball Workin' On This Old Chevy! There Ain't Nothin' Like It!
Thanks,
50/63chevys

You didn't mention the size engine
6 cyl 230 plug 46N
gap .035
points .019 new used .016
timing 4 deg. BTDC
8 cyl 283 plug 45
Gap and timing same as 6 cyl
I love those old engines though there isn't much difference than todays mechanicly.Charlie

Thanks for the response! It's kinda hard gettin' my old ass back to that distributor, but I'm doin' alright with it. The '63 has a 283 with a Rochester 2 bbl. and a 4 speed. The '50 has a 327 4 bbl with a powerglide behind it. I'm just trying to get the '63 tuned right. I'm thinkin' maybe I don't have the points set right or somethin'. It just doesn't seem to have the power it should. I know it's not a "race car", it just seems to be holdin' back.
Any ideas?
Dammit, another good ol boy gone. Condolence to the family. RIP Mike
