New to CHR and need some help.

    Hi every one,
What an awsome sight you have here, My name is Mike and I
need to pick your brain. I am building a 29 ford closed cab truck and just bought a TCI complete front end and was woundering,
(since there is no instructions), if some one had some detailed info putting it together, like where the bearing for the king pin goes, on top or on bottom of axel and where do the felt pads go?

    Thank you,

    Mike

The bearing goes on the bottom of the axle & if I remember right the felt pad goes on the top to act as a dust sheild.

You should also have some thin shims. You may or may not need some or all of them. I put the shims on top of the bearing.

Put a little anti-sieze (sp) on the spring perch shanks when you assemble the axle.

Also, lube the poly spring shackle bushings. There should be a recommendation in the instructions. If not, use some graphite dry lube.

Does it matter what side of the bearing is up or down?

There should also be a "cupped" washer that the felt fits in to retain it. There should be a "seam" on one face of the bearing, I usually put that facing down to minimize dirt accumulation. Make sure you align the notch in the kingpin toward the side with the retainer pin/bolt that goes through the axle as you slide it in. Then all you have to do is tweak it a bit with a drift to get the bolt to fully seat.
