I just found this site yesterday, very interesting. I am from Northwest Alabama. This is my first streetrod so any advice is appreciated. I had a 1970 Dodge SuperBee that I traded for the 33 Plymouth. I am going to redo just about the whole car. Am rebuilding a 1977 350 to put in the car. Motor will be stock except for a 280 Comp cam, using a 700 R4 with a 2200 stall for the transmission.
Has a Mustang2 front end and Camaro rear.
At present car has a Desoto Fire Dome Hemi with 2 speed transmission that I will be pulling and selling.

I have GOT to ask the same question as Dave about the engine swap. (For those who know me that's a big surprise huh ) Not trying to talk you into or out of anything, just wondering.

From the picture you have a very neat looking rod (would love to see some pictures of the engine compartment with the HEMI in it)

    Welcome aboard

I want something that is a little easier to find parts for, and I also don't like the 2 speed transimission.
This motor cranks and runs good just not what I want.

I hear you about the parts, it can be a little difficult and pricey on the Desoto motors. The tranny would be an easy (but not cheap) fix.

I have posted a little early HEMI info recently just in case your interested.

Good luck with your project, and remember if it makes YOU happy, your doing it right .

MikeP thanks for the info, I had already found and read your information on the Hemi.

I looked at your gallery, VERY VERY neat project.

Boy, I see a lot of potential in that engine compartment with the HEMI (starting wiht those painted valve cover and 2 BBL), but like I said you'e got to build what you want.

Well ya'll, maybe that's not what he wants to do.

Welcome mudbugger, just found the site myself.

I did the 350 / 700 R4 combo in my 40 Plymouth pick up and I'm real happy with the results. I had a line on a rebuilt Hemi, 292 if I recall, bored and stroked. Would have been about the same money. But I guess I got too much common sense. Didn't want to carry all those extra parts with me every time I take it out of town. Seems every one's got their own opinion. I think the guy still has that hemi if any one is interested.

Not to get into a a p!## contest, but the total of the spare parts I'll be carrying are 1 each; rocker shaft, Intake and exhaust rockers and push rods, and a set of plugs. EVERYTHING else that could commonly go out on a long road trip (the 5000+ miles round trips I'm planning) can be bought at any chain store thats open on a Sunday.

But as I said he needs to do what he feels confortable with.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to change out the motor and tranny as I had planned, so if anyone is interested in a running Hemi motor and transmission let me know.
