Welcome to the site. I'm am currentlly working on a 67 el camino that I fired up for the first time in 5+ years. As far as fixing up your I started with rust repair (was most of my car) then suspension, engine. Thats where I'm at now. I'm going to try to put some glass in soon so I can drive it down to get an emissions test. In colorado you only need to do it once then as long as you don't let the plates lapse you never need a e-test it again (can you say engine mods). I recommend you check out el camino centrals website (www.elcaminocentral.com). There a lot of good info there. All elkys all the time.

    Good luck with your project.

Welcome to CHR man! I am from NC as well. I am in Weddington (just south of Charlotte and 5 minutes from Waxhaw, right near Matthews). How far are you from here. I know of the name your in and all and have been there, just can't remember how far it is. We used to have a El Camino (my father and I) even though I think it was a 68-69 or around there.

Welcome to CHR 72ElCamino! I founded the El Camino Classics club back in '93 and was President until '03. I had built my '67 Elky pretty much from the ground up using parts from Original Parts Group (OPG) out of Huntington Beach, CA. Also Ground Up Restorations out of New York is a good supplier. You can pretty much find anything you want in the way of parts for your '72 at numerous places. Besides El Camino Central, you can check out
www.chevelles.com and www.chevelles.com/aces. My El Camino was a factory 4-speed 327 car but I dropped in a 350hp 396 to go along with the M-22 and continued to build from there! I couldn't keep the darn thing straight going down the road!!! I miss that truck/car!
