    Dodge diesel....

     



    Looking for a donor truck---anybody know what year Dodge (Cummins) went from the mechanical pump 12 valve diesel to the electronic version of today?????

    sometime in the 90's dave. thought about 12 valving my pickemup as well

    Found a really nice good solid body 1 ton crew cab dually, mid 80's Ford.... Thinking about putting a more "passenger friendly" toter together... Already have an extended cab, same body lines, like to use it on the back of the crew cab so it would have some leg room.... Then, it just ain't a toter if it ain't a diesel!!!!

    1998.5 first year of the 24valve early 98 still 12valve, we have two 24valves, 12 is the hot ticket. most desireable truck is the 1998 four door 12 valve.
    1949 Ford F1 stocker, V8 flatty

    1948 Ford 2.5 ton dually project
    1953 Chevy 3100 AD project to my 85 S10pu
    1968 2.2 Ecotec Baja Bug kingCoil etc.

    My Son in law has a 95 w/24 But its not normal
    www.turbodieselregister.com Has alot of Dodge Cummins info

    Dang it Ed... you beat me to it.

    98.5 is the start of the 24 valve electronic FI. The VP-44 is a well known replacement part ($1050). It can be hurt by running too low level fuel in the tank (fuel gets too hot), bad lift pump (pressure below 5 psi) too high lift pump pressure (20 psi), dirty fuel, Water in the fuel, running out of fuel (no excuse for this) and running gas instead of diesel (not paying attention at the pump...sniff the hose before fueling). If you take care of the VP-44 you will pretty well take care of any other problems too.

    My 2nd lift pump is going on 125k miles and the 2nd VP is right at 100k and going strong.

    The common rail motors started with the 03 model year. A completely different FI system.
