Question Is burning tire bad for the car?

I use to burn tire for fun pretty often In my 83 Cutlass Supreme 305ci. I heard that burning tire and doing donuts can eventually damage stuff on you car such as steering and many other things. A little help with that please!!! Because my summer project car is a success and i don`t wanna screw it up!!!

I know it will cook a stock clutch over a period of time in a manual trans.
In an automatic, I'd guess it could burn up the clutch packs. I'm assuming it's a automatic.

It can and will ruin the rear brakes unless you run with a line lock.

It will run your tires bald but that's obviouse.

I doubt doing dougnts will ruin steering.

that should cover it. am I missing anything guys?

I knew about the brake part, but not about the clutch, and yes, it`s an automatic. If you wanna see more of my car, just go to www.geocities.com/vdorobantu. It has pics of the car. I really like the feeling of burnt tire. When you burn it, you can really hear that rumble. Torque+high RPM=beautiful sound.

Is it a 305 or 307? 305-chevy, distributor in the rear through the manifold. 307-Olds, distributor in the rear, manifold can be pulled without touching the distributor. As for doughnuts, there can be tie-rod breakage, ball joint strain and lug strain. But 10 years on a NY road can do that too. My advice, keep the front end lubed, and have some fun. As for the Smokeouts, probably not a good idea. The T350 tranny is pretty durable, but dont expect miracles. If your powershifting(shifts while the tires are smoking) stop immediatly. This can do severe damage to the clutch packs, and destroy your tranny. I think thats about it

Sure, keep it up. Eventually you'll toast your motor, burn up your transmission, give every hot-rodder a bad name, and a guy in a blue suit will be writing you a book full of tickets.

Donuts and stripes for fun? What are you, twelve?

i will keep it up, but i will stop burning for no reason. Thanks for the advice guys. And tires are damn expensive for a 18 yr old gearhead. Part time jobs and highschool are not the perfect combo.

I would still like to know if its a 305 or 307. Excessive RPMs and oldsmobile motors dont mix too well. From the sound of it, your just holding it and wheel-standing. Due to high timing and poor head design, you may want to be carefull under No load. Is it the factory motor? if it is, Be Carefull! you have a set of 5A heads. These can be machined to a tighter squeeze, but they have a sight tendancy to crack under the conditions your describing. So just watch it-allright. From a former 80s cutlass owner to a newbie.

PS: feel free to use that for an avitar

They gotta' thing around here called 'sideshow' , big crowds of kids burnin' dounuts. I'v seen trannys twisted off at the bell housing, one side blown out of locker rear diffs, and input clutch drums grenade. In every case there was shreaded rubber under the fenders. If ya wanna' play be prepaired to pay. BTW a coupla' kids got killed in the last year or so by cars gettin' loose in the crowd.
