    1957 Chevy 4 Door.

Does anyone know an estimated price on how much it would be to get EVERY window replaced in a 1957 4 Door Chevy including the little vent windows in the front and back? I have been trying to look around on the net and all and cannot find ANY pricings. Also does anyone have any info on these cars like the pros and cons and some pictures? I am looking up some info and all looking for pictures and have a few but would like some more, and a couple from the front of the car...
    Thanks for any help.

Hey Hellraiser, try Classicchevy.com for glass prices. For photos I would go to Ebay and search for 1957 Chevrolet. Each add will usually have a lot of good pics. I have owened Tri 5 Chevies for 45 years, and I cant think of anything but good to say about a 57. They are probably the most recognized classic around....Larry

There are lots of tri-five Chevy stuff at swapmeets and 4 door parts are usually cheaper than 2 door parts. I've seen plenty of side glass. Not many good windshields though. Maybe they don't bring them cause they don't want to risk breaking them so you have to ask.
Flat glass isn't very expensive. I had a new window cut for the drivers door on a 57 Chevy 4 dr at a local glass company and it cost $30. I had six pieces of dark tinted glass cut for my 40 panel for $165. It has a 2 piece flat windshield, 2 front door windows and 2 rear door windows.
If you have a cracked window to use as a pattern they can make a copy. If you don't have a useable window you can make patterns with a piece of cardboard.
While you're checking out 57 Chevys on ebay do a search for "1955 1956 1957 Chevrolet window glass"

Thanks a lot you guy's. Matt, I was going to ask you for that site. Now how do I know if it's a sedan or a hardtop? I will go by it this weekend or something and try to get a picture of it but here is a picture of something similar I would like to do with white interior though... http://www.armasoft.com/hotrodheaven/
The thing looks just like that but in a darker blue with a little metallic looking flake. I think flat black with the white in that back corner in the trim would look good. All the trim is still there, etc but in the middle of the oval on the front grill there is nothing, it's just the radiator you can see but the outside of it is, I was thinking that you could just get something like a billit grill from a chevy truck and cut it out and fit it in there...

It's a Sedan, a hardtop has no doorpost's or window frames and a sedan does, the car in the pics is a sedan.

The car in the pic is described as a bel air, get all the prices for all the cars, you know it's a 4dr sedan, there should be a listing for Bel Air, 210 and the 150, then look at the actual car and see if it's a bel air or not, bel air markings should be on it but mey have been removed, If I remember right the 150 and 210's are not marked at all and only the trim tag can tell them apart, someone could trick you into thinking a 150 or 210 is a bel air if it had no bel air markings, the Bel air is of course more valuble in a 4dr or not. On my car, maby not on a tri 5, the trim tag is on the right side of the cowl, that's where I'd look for it, have to have the hood up though. There are plenty of sites with # to tell tri 5's ( '55, '56 and '57 Chevys ) apart. Check the # and decode the whole trim tag.

Thanks guy's. Well all I know is that the Belair emblems on the back little fender wings are taken off there are just the two or three holes on each side where it used to be. I will try going down there and get the numbers... Anyways, 54 Belvedere, hwo good of shape is that car in? I wouldn't wan't to buy it or nothing because I don't wan't to have to worry about the shipping and everything else, it's too much of a hassel but it would be nice to get just the glass from it, hah. I am not going to say much more as of right now until I go talk to the guy and see if he will sell or not. I am sure if he does then he will wan't to get rid of it cheap since it's been sitting there for a long time and over time people are breaking the glass, the head lights, etc. One head light is all shot out, now too and I know I can find one of them. I wen't to some junk yards yesterday for hours and looking for a part for a friends truck and also asked the owners if they had any glass or any 4 door 57's or anything and they said no and that nowhere around here would probably have em.
I will let you guy's know what happens sometime this weekend or next week whenever I get a chance to head over there and find out. I am going to try and go sometime today but from the looks of it I got too much stuff to do.
    Thanks for your guy's help.

Geez, FMX, you could just have your father drive you to Montgomery with his pickup and flat tow it home with a tow bar. By my calulations your only about 600 miles away. It make a good Father and Son outing.

I towed my tricked out 83 T-Bird I had in 99 here to Iowa from the Seattle Area (1700 plus miles) with my ol GMC duece and a half I used to own in the first week of April 99. Went through moutains and snow, etc, etc and It was no real problem.

P.S. I had everything left (after the divorce) that I owned loaded on that poor Jimmy (1966 model). Sometimes I am suprised I made it.

My point being that $800.00 for a 57 Chevy 4 door in decent shape with all it's glass is way hard to beat. At that price the cost of gas to go get it is money well spent.

Keep on Looking though. Never know what you'll find.

Yeah Ford, your right on that one. Only problem is that my dad works a lot and he hates driving, it's hard to explain. It's not that big of a deal though. I'd rather have a truck though like an old one but I wan't to see how much I can get this 57 for. A friend just called me a few minutes ago and said that his friend from my school (and mine too) has a 69 Dodge Dart with a 318 and factory 4 speed tranny and like some 3.something rear end in it and is wanting to sell it for about 2000 or more but Italked to him and I told him I wan't to check it out and he said he would sell it for 1000 bucks to me and noone else. If I got that then I would like to make it an all out drag car and my other friend in my auto tech class has a 350 and a 383 stroker that he said he would sell me real cheap for like 700 or so and they are freshly rebuilt and everything and just need to be timed and need an ignition and that's about it. I am going to check the Dart out this Friday and if I like it then I am getting it and if I can get the 57 cheap then I will get that too and use the 57 for everyday driver and Dart for drag. I have almost 1000 bucks right now and if I need more money for both then I can sell my dirtbike for 2500 because a lot of people around here like my bike and would buy either one of them from me anytime.... Well I am going on and on writing a book so I'll let you guy's throw your two cents on all this... Any info on the Dart?

Oh also Ford, it's worth the gas money? lol a 454 crew cab dually is a biotch to fill up, I will probably spend more time going to gas stations and more money. haha Only bad thing about big engines but worth it. That's why I think I may keep the 6 in the 57 if I can get my hands on it...

    Regarding the glass problem, here:

The front and back glass are the only real stickers in a case like this, as the glass is a bit hard to find, in good shape. The side glass is a different story; since it is all flat glass, any good glass shop should be able to fit and cut it. I know that today is a different time, and all that, but the fact remains the same; if they can't cut and fit flat auto glass, they ain't much of a shop (jmho).

However, there are some outfits making new replacement glass for old cars, now, including some of the compound curved fronts and rears. Check out the ads in Hemmings, or some of the Street Rodding magazines.
