1957 Chevy 4 Door.

I woulden't chop it, reason is you need to know what your doing, it does have to be welded square and all, the cab also need to be braced b4 hand. best bet is find an '80's s10 in a junkyard, buy just the cab, take the windows out and brace it up then chop it weld it back up and see if it looks right, keep getting cabs from s10's and practacing until you got it right. You also have to chop the window frames or they will be too big for the opening which is compilicated keeping it square. You could make a new bed with new bed parts, just search chevy truck resto parts. The truck would look good chopped but it's a 1 time chance, you screw it up and the cab's no good unless major work is done.

Well the chop top part I won't do for a while. The truck needs quite a lot of things like seats, bed, speedometers and those kinds of things and a lot of other things. I went to chevyduty.com and to make a whole new bed again will be a couple thousand bucks so that will have to wait too. It will take me a long time to get this thing how I want but hopefully it will work out. I just need to work on one thing at a time.

I just priced up most of everythng like the sides front, ect to make almost a complete bed and tailgate and the fenders, running boards, radiator supports (street rod application), door glass, the bed wood and strips, and some other stuff and it will equal up to about $2750. That is a lot of money just for the bed, fenders, glass and the other things I mentioned but it's also not too bad either for the prices for the things but a lot of money for someone my age. But like I said, I am going to work and worry about one thing at a time I am just looking around now and pricing everything I will need up and then going to double the price and then start saving my money and buying one thing at a time... If you got any input on a good rear and front end then please let me know on that because that and the engine and tranny is first thing I am worrying about after I get the frame off powder coated and brakes on....

Yeah that is what I was going to do for the rear end and all but the places out here only keep cars 10 years old and newer so there are only 2000's and up in the places here now they said and I could maybe find a old bronco to find the rear end out of but the front end will be a problem. There are only about 2 or 3 junk yards around near me and I have been to them all already and nothing much there, all a bunch of mazda trucks, hondas, and worthless cars. But the fun part is looking for the parts I need so I will just need to go drive around and see what I can find.

Well, even a 2000 up rear end is good. How about a Ford Explorer 8.5", disc brakes too.

That would be a good idea there Matt. If I put wide tires on the back then wont I have to have a narrowed rear end even more narrow than a Ford 9"? How would I get a really narrowed one? I don't even know if I wan't wide tires on the back or not though, that's what I am trying to figure out. I have to hurry and decide because I am supposed to pick the truck up tomarrow and the tires have NO rubber on them on the back and like all different tires and just the metal wires that are inside are all poking out. If anyone has any ideas on what I can or should do with the rear end then please let me know so I can get a pricing on how much I will need to save. Thanks.

Just go to a junkyard and get 2 tires with rims ( that will fit your bolt pattern ) and bolt them up. Chances are there 5x 4 /3/4 bolt pattern which is common but check them to make shure or ask the guy what pattern they are.

6 bolts on it. I went back again today to check it out because the guy hasn't called me back yet or isn't home. I am buying the truck for sure so that's out of the way but the guy was in the hospital like Streets was for the same problem or something I think I dont' remember but he was in there for 2 weeks and came home and wasn't all the way well yet so I am thinking he had to go back to the hospital. He said he thought he was having a heartattach actually and wen't and it was something else so it isn't what Streets had I guess. I don't know but anyways, the truck needs a ton of things done too it but still worth the money and I will just wait and save up for nice rims and tires.

Well your gonna need tires/ rims if your going to tow/ drive it home, unless your calling the towing service and they put it on a flatbed. late 70's jeep wagoneers and such had 6 lug aluminum rims and all 6 lugs are the same. some new chevy also have 6 luggers.

Matt, I am having AAA bring a flat bed out and towing it. We got free towing from them my dad said and would be easier instead of doing it ourself and trying to get it on our trailor. The guy there has his shop wil old tires lying around and I am going to ask if he can throw a old set on that will work to just roll the truck around because either way it will still need to be loaded onto the flat bed truck.
