Are there any transmissions for the 429/460 beside the toploader and the truck types? I'd be perfectly happy with a 3-speed, but would prefer a 4-speed. Trying to find a toploader is tough, and the truck trannies all have granny gears in them.

I've still got a couple of Doug Nash 5 speeds, one is the non-synchro competition trans, the other is a 5 speed street version with sychros. I think Richmond Gear bought out Doug Nash, so they are still available. If you don't want one of them, then either Liberty or Jericho make 4 speeds that will live with the torque.

I appreciate it, but I think I'm going to go with a Tremec. www.darkhorseperformance.com They have reasonable prices, and I like the ratios better for my application. Of course, if a used Doug Nash is cheaper than a new Tremec I'd be stupid to not consider it.

Go with the Doug Nash 5 speed, I have one in the cobra behind a 427, I would never go back to a top loader.
