    hey, there's a 73' maverick settin down the rroad from my house. body appears to be in good shape, as well as interior, but nothging special, paint's a little rough, has what appears to me to be a 302(not positive, i don't really know much about fords) headers, chrome valve covers, aluminum weiand intake, not sure of anything else, just curious, is $3000 a reasonalbe price? once again, i'm not a ford man, which is why i figured i would ask... any help would be appreciated

    yeah that's resonable, the engine probably is a 302.

    If the body is strait with no rust other then surface. Anything else can be fixed. It should run good for that kind of money though. But stay with aluminum valve covers no matter what the cost, the chrome ones like to leak.

    I'll have to disagree with you on that one vara. Chrome valve covers usually dont leak unless they've been gorilla-torqued. Anyway, if $3000 is the asking price, I would talk him down. See if he would take $2500, and offer him cash. That usually tends to square the deal.

    Pfcjal ; I had a 73 Ford Mavrick with a 302 in it.
    The aluminum valve covers give you a good wide flat edge with a big lip to hold your gasget in place. The only thing you should have to use on your cork gasget is a little copper tack spray,and they will seal up the first time. Like drg84 said don't over torque them, just lightly snug the bolts up. If your planning on hot rodding this car, this is a great choice for that. But make sure you add some sub frame connectors because this is a Unibody frame and will twist. Also get some good traction bars, the kind that the U bolts from the rear end go right thru them and the shock goes to them as well. also make sure the front bushing is centered directly under the I-Bolt of the leaf spring. then make sure that they are good and tight up against the snubbers Then remove your front sway bar to help the car sqaut back when you take off, this will help you pull the front wheels up off the ground, like mine did. If you want to add a bigger engine you will have to spread the shock towers out. 302 should be plenty, this car is very light. Belive me I know this car type from direct experience. If My scanner was working I would send you some pictures of my old Mavrick.

    sometimes collector value doesn't matter if its a fun car to drive, mavericks are nice and light and with a 302 they pack quite a punch, i prefer cars with a frame instead of a unibody, but i used to have a 73 maverick with the straight 6 and that thing was pretty damn fast, even with the c4 tranny, with everything factory it was topping out at 125. mavericks are pretty fun cars, not high on the collection value, but definately fun, and i must say, trying to kill that car took me 3 1/2 years, i started driving it when i was 16 didn't know any better than to beat the crap out of it, it was only a $300 and it was still running alright when i got rid of it

    pfcjal; Here is some pictures of my home made traction bars and of me spreading the shock towers out to put in a 351 windsor in to my 73 Ford Mavrick. Now If I could just get drg84 to show me how to install valve covers, I'll be ok. HE! HE! HE!

    i appreciate all of your help, sorry took so long to reply, have been haveing computer trouble... i've been told that i could get it for 2000 cash, motor is supposed to have been recently rebuilt.. i''m still considering it, but not sure if it'll fit in my budget at the moment, but i'm gonna shoot for it. well once again, thanks for your help,
