Actually Bob, I think "stump broke" came from Iowa, hopefully Pro has the details on it's origin, he's an ex-Iowan.

Geez Dust, now ya gonna tell us that them Montana cowbowy wear sneakers instead of cowboy boots???

Actually, IMHO this thread now makes more sense than rat rods.

IF anyone really cares some of us would rather a rattier rod or kustom over the all attitude RED investment show only never driven to work because insurance company might frown or a bug might tarnish my fancy over priced paint job. Sorry about that but after 25 years in street rodding I got real sick of the show only croud and I quit all the clubs I once belonged. IF anymore of you older guys remember the old type of rod runs when thay started on Friday and all the real car guy where their then on sunday all the Sunday runners showed up and whinned about classes trophies parking and all the krap that killed the fun . (thank GOD thay did not show up on Friday )

oh by the way when I started in the hobbie I drove a all REDD 66 Chevy II and won a few of those stupid dust collectors (trophies) but now I have seen the light and have more fun building hunting and driving than I ever did cleaning polishing and buffing .

I always thought ratrods were like the munsters ride?or ratfink those rides look pretty finished to me?When some one says hey i have a ratrod and his rod is a bare metal perfectly straight and has a polished 10,000 dollar engine and the next guy sayes i have a ratrod too and his ride has poor quality body work plywood floors and safety issues ,he needs a lesson on proper terminology(sorry sir u have a junker not a ratrod)someone needs to properly define ratrod and who better to do it than the builders and trend setters we have here?some ones gunna have to address this issue with a clear definition because from what I see all those different rides from junker to show car cant all be ratrods?IMO this would bring clarity to this issue and solve some of the animosity of feeling insulted when this issue is being talked about because I am almost positive when u say ratrods are unsafe and someone has the perfectly straight bare metal ride with 10,000 dollars in a polished motor there gunna feel offended and be compelled to speak out and theres where the confusion and animosity start .A well defined definition of ratrod IMO would solve some of this .and also I dont what ratrod is anymore so it would help me too!!! and also this is all racedecks fault for even writting the word ratrod J/k

I don't understand why any cars have to cataloged and classified or why the owners have to be sterotyped as this or that. A Hot Rod by any other name is still a Hot Rod...........Call my cars what ever you care to call them, just make sure you call them mine!!! Is it just me, or does it seem that a lot of this name calling belongs on the elementary school playground, might as well be saying that "my dad is tuffer than yer dad" .........

Na Dave, back when we went to school, they didn't allow that. We were told to stop it and grow up. I don't think they give that warning Ann E. Moore.

My dad IS tougher than your dad! Seriously though, Dave has a point. What does it matter what a rat rod, a street rod or a t-bucket classifies as? the whole point of having a hot rod is to have some fun with it. And weather that means a 43 jeep with a 500 caddy, a 70AMX with a 390 or a monte carlo with a 305 and rusted fenders, if the owner enjoys it and likes to drive it, who are we to judge? After all, we not the ones driving them.
