Uncle Bob comes through!
Now Robert, when you have time we'd love to see some pictures of the Nebraska '40 you're working on!
Bob, have you used any of these before? I'm just wondering how much more stress it puts on the hood when you shut the hood? I will probably have to source new hinges for my car. You have to physically push the RH rear corner of the hood down every time you close the hood. Seems weird to me.
My 46 did the same thing. I finally just removed the springs and used a prop rod. There is a fellow down in south Louisiana that makes a telescoping stainless prop rod that works very well. As long as you remember to unlock it before you try to shut the hood. Mine got bent by someone that didn't know what they were doing. I'll try to find a link if he's still in business. It's been several years since I bought mine.
I just looked back at my old copies of Street Scene and had to go back to 2017 to find his add. Website is dead. Probably out of business. PM me if you're interested and I will send you the last phone number for him. I can get a pic of mine too. It's a neat setup that is out of the way.
Yeah that rear corner not going fully down is very typical and a sign of worn hinges. If you can find good, original Ford hinges it would be best. Some of the repop ones aren't very good and wear out at the rivets in short order. The ones from Drake seem to be the best, though not sure how he's surviving these days.
As for the struts, I've not use the ones for the hood, just the trunk on one of my coupes about 25 years ago. No undue stress that I could detect. The most effort is when getting them started on the downstroke, but that same issue prevails with the original Ford springs too.
