    Texas HOT

We've been hovering around 100F for weeks, so it's been a good time to check out the A/C install and the B&M remote trans cooler. My experience with this '34 has been far from glitch-free, but I'm very happy with these (fairly) recent adds.

The radiator has no trans cooler tank, so I hung a B&M thermostatically controlled heat exchanger behind the rear axle. In all of this Texas weather, the engine temp is rock steady at 180, and the trans temp at 150.

The Vintage Air MK-IV unit is amazing. I have to keep it fairly low to avoid frozen cajones.

Shine, My mother was a social worker, and creeping up on 50 years old when she bought a brand-new 64-1/2 Mustang. All of her friends thought she was going into her second childhood, but she loved that car. She had that unit in her Mustang, which is where I got the idea.

Jack, you did a very good job with the thermostatically controlled tranny cooler, too, from research to engineering the package and then fabrication for a clean installation. The operating experience is evidence of your total package being spot on.

Off the subject a little bit, at the scout camp south of where I live (H.Roe Bartle) we have a great number of Texas Scouts attending, in the tune of 200-300 per camping session per camp. I asked one of the scout leaders why they would travel to Missouri when its 100 degrees here, he said it isn't the day thats the problem in Texas, he said its the night, Missouri cools down at night to the low 80's usually even the 70's and in Texas it doesn't, something I never thought about! I have waited till evening to drive a hot tempered hot rod home to keep it over heating, I guess that always can't be done!

Shine, Yes but who's laughing in Jan-Feb? That night temp doesn't sound any different than we have here. I guess if there was a perfect place (mine would be 75) we would all be living there!

San Diego is about as close as you can get, at least in the continental US. I was stationed there for most of 1962 and loved the place. I was there last Nov for my grandson's boot camp graduation and the weather was great, but you couldn't give me the whole damn state.

San Diego is pretty close to that, but it's California, and 1600 miles from grand kids...

i built my building room so i could work during the summer. i keep it cold enough in there to swing beef. during the winter the shop stays toasty. i can keep the booth temp at 70 when it is in the 30's. we get a lot more work done here from sept to june. i have friends who tease me in july but change their tune come jan . i dont think i would last long in those long cold winters.

Yep, since I put A/C and heat pump in the shop I really don't care how hot or cold it is outside. BTW Jack (Henry Rifle) The hang on A/C I put in my 40 Sedan delivery is as Shine said.
I can hang meat in it in July/August. Good move.
When I get to where I was goin, I forgot why I went there>

Another happy report on the under dash a/c unit. The one in my 3window is a actual unit from a 66 Mustang. I changed the exp valve and flushed the unit and converted it to 134 and as Shine said "you can hang beef". That's here on the Gulf Coast in Dickinson.

I have a guy 72 suburban with a dealer add on air unit that is a little longer than that but looks the same aside from that. Hopefully it works as well as yours. Nice install and I'm glad to hear everything is staying cool and operational for you.
