    At long last....................

I haven't said much about it in the past couple months, but the '36 roadster is nearing completion after a long hibernation. The story is too long and disheartening to tell, but this ol' girl spent a few years in the penalty box. So after finally getting after it we're to the point that we dropped it at the upholstery shop this morning. When the threads and top get done it'll be the home stretch of final fitment of grille and hood, a little fine tuning of the Atomic fuel injection system, final alignment, and then put some miles on it (and probably/hopefully just a little debugging) before we completely lose our nice weather.

I'm impressed, no "Conestoga wagon" wheels.

I too am impressed with what we can see so far. Bob, what sort of wheel nuts are you using on her as in that photo there is something different about them I think ? I'm looking forward to see her fully dressed too ....

This is an old set of Mehelich bolt on wheels, lots of offset as you can see. I actually started the build with these wheels and we chose the chassis parts to make them fit properly within the fenders. Took some narrowed Heidt's front A arms, and special ECI front hubs to keep the track where it belongs.

As for the lugs, Mehelich machined these to take standard lug nuts. Perhaps what is catching your eye is the center mount for the not yet installed center caps. The centers will cover the entire lug area, and are held on with a threaded center cap similar to a knock off without the wings. Once those are installed they look almost exactly like the knock off version of the Mehelich wheels.

I don't have the caps here to take a pic, but found this old brochure that is close......just imagine rather than wings the center is just a large hex nut.

EDIT: okay, I found a big enough pic to crop down to the wheel hub so you could see the threads on the center retainer cap.

Thanks Uncle Bob for the explaination of the wheel nuts as on the picture of the front wheel I can see that the nuts fit into a recess also so that the cover fits down smoothly. I do like the rims and the whole car too. Will goggle those rims soon to have a look, thanks.

    Hi Unc,

Looks a bit different from the last I saw it. Did you end up doing the re-paint yourself or did you finally find someone up to the chore? Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks Jack, yeah it's chugging right along now.
Didn't have to do much with the paint beside some trash clean up, except for the hood and grille. The hood edges were thin on what was the bottom when hung for spraying, and for whatever reason the grille shell was too light when out in the sun. I rediscovered a good guy I met some 20 years ago and had lost track of. He showed up in my garage to buy some parts a few months ago and we worked out a recovery plan. He's been great to work with and has solved several problems that this old body (mine) can't handle well anymore.

Glad to hear things are coming together, also a great rediscover. Once again it looks great and I'm sure it looks even better in person.
