A toilet in the shop was a must this time around. In the last shop it was either go out behind the shop for #1 or trapes back to the house for the other and it was almost always raining when I needed to go to the house.:(
Jack.
Man, that first coat of mud looks great. Makes my stuff look horrid.
While these pics don't look appreciably different than the last batch we've actually made pretty good progress all things considered. The second coat of taping mud got applied then sanded and texture coat on the drywall got shot yesterday, some material for another part of the house got delivered, and then today the stucco guys got the finish coat laid down so we'll be ready for color in a few days. The schedule is going into a small bog down period as getting sub schedules to line up is getting less flexible with fewer steps to juggle. Probably won't have much to show again until Friday or even next Monday.
I think "we'll' call it the VILLA!
Looks like great progress from here!
Or The Carriage House, Mike! Regardless what it's called the building is looking very classy, Uncle Bob! It compliments the house nicely, matching the roof line and extensions exactly, and will be a boost to your property value because of the attention to detail you put into the design, and then the execution of the build. Another good job to add to your string of accomplishments!
OOOO Yes. The Carriage House.. 'cause that's where he keeps all the horses.
But yes, it is a very classy design and well executed too! So color me green with envy.
Thanks guys, I'm just glad that so far it's gone well enough to avoid being named the "chamber of horrors"............whew!
BTW Mike, not ALL the horses.........the brides nag gets stabled about 4 miles from here.........when I say nag I do mean a four legged critter that turns perfectly good oats into road apples.
That is one fantastic looking place Bob. You're not actually going to work on cars in there are you?!
I totally agree. It does look very classy indeed.
Congratulations on a job well jobbed.
I've not seen your house so cannot comment upon whether the two complement each other or not; but I'm prepared to take Roger's word for it.
Well done that man.
Totally off-topic: our house has a board outside which reads 'Rock Bottom', and the top gateway (which gives access to the Cabbage Patch and the flat in my main shed,) has a board which reads 'The Last Resort.'
Just sayin'.
It’s been awhile since the last update. Between an anticipated slowdown in scheduling, a glitch with the drywall texturing, and my going off to a 50 year reunion of my old Vietnam flying outfit I haven’t been able to post up.
While some of the events completed don’t make for exciting pictures, a good number of items are on the list of accomplishments. The drywall got textured (with a small glitch causing a couple day delay), primed and then painted. While the paint crew was on site they also got the underside of the man door overhang stained along with the columns. As a pleasant surprise, the owner of the painting company asked if I enjoyed tamales. After I told him I’m a tamale-holic he gave me a dozen homemade chicken tamales with a delicious green chili sauce. Yummmmm mmmmeeeeeee! While they were doing their thing, another crew dug the hole for the footing that will serve the wall that will visually connect the garage to the house. Concrete was poured and the footing is done. Meanwhile the new garage doors, and the one being transferred from the attached garage, were installed. Also the stucco got its finish coat of final color in prep for the hanging of the stone on the lower portion of the walls and under the gables. While I was away the electrical was hooked up and activated, the utility sink with local heater installed, and the rock work began.
All things considered, we’re moving along pretty well despite a couple little delays.
more...............
and a couple more.........
Very nice! Those Tamales sure look good!
Bob, with the Shop looking as nice as the House and having most of the amenities, choosing which place to spend your "spare" time will be tough.;)
Jack.
So, here we are 8 pages later and time to get back to the original subject of this thread. The garage build isn't exactly off topic, it is being built to house the sedan, so let's just think of it as weaving two related stories together in one thread. I'll have more pics and notes on the building later in the week as progress has been occurring, but today a bit of update on the sedan as it becomes more whole. It should be getting here around the 4th of November, by which time the garage should be well finished. Good timing I'd say.........
Gonna be a pretty one...
That looks so nice!
Your shop/garage looks very nice. The deuce is equally nice.
Nice, it's getting to the exciting stage !
We’re pretty much in the home stretch on this one. The past couple weeks have seen many of the detail items come to completion.
Weekend before last I epoxy coated the floor which was followed by vinyl base material being laid on. That pretty much got the interior to the point of being able to begin moving stuff in. I’m transferring cabinets/benches from the attached garages so there’s the whole thing of disassembly, reassembly…………just takes time. Well, that and unload all the junk that was on shelves and in drawers and shuttle that too. Anyway, I’ll be awhile completing all that.
The other inside item that got done was the mini-split heat pump, so comfort should be easy.
On the outside, the stone guys finished up the window ledges and post caps, and got the connecting wall built between the new building and the existing house. The gate is being built currently and is probably about 10 days out. The correct man door got installed and painted. And the final stucco color got applied. Gutters will be the last thing outside and are scheduled for the 25th. Well, maybe the light fixtures on the front will be last……..haven’t gotten the eta on them yet.
The dirt guy came back and hauled off all the construction debris that didn’t go in the dumpster and set grade for drainage and spread a bit of top soil. The landscape guys are supposed to be in next week to rework the sprinklers for the lawn and planter areas as well as lay some sod and planter boarders.
One of the things I haven’t made much mention of, since it’s not exactly garage, is that we converted the third stall of the attached garage into a media room. The previous owner had halfway converted it while leaving the garage door. That meant that it wouldn’t be appraised as living space, just garage, even though the floor was modified in a way that made it not very user friendly as garage space. So we decided to take it the full way, closed off the door, covered it with stone, put in a window, and today the drywall work is in process. Hopefully next week the woodwork and flooring will get done and we’ll be almost done in there as well.
That’s pretty much it. I’ll probably be doing one last posting at full completion with a wide angle shot to show how it ties in with the overall style of the house. Not sure when that will be, but would guess somewhere around month end or so. Well, that, and the ’32 sedan is scheduled to be released from paint jail on 11/4 so might just include that in a pic too.
Thanks for all the interest shown, it’s been fun sharing it with you all.
The past couple weeks have seen little of photo worthy note on the garage except the install of the cabinets and some organizing, so one shot of that. For the original point of this thread, Greg delivered the '32 sedan this morning. It's fully painted and as crazy as it sounds I'll be disassembling the front sheet metal and chassis to get all the final drive train configuration in. We agreed to have him put it all together for the 2000 mile transport as that lessened the chances of damaging loose parts...........but I still may be crazy.
Attached is a shot of the sedan in it's stall. I looks a bit tighter than it actually is, but it's not a wide open area either. Even with the land we have we still had to live within some size limitations. But then, I've never had a shop big enough................no such thing exists as far as I can figure......
And just for grins, a pic of what it looked like the day we picked it up near San Francisco.
Looks great, Uncle Bob!! Awesome stance and I love the understated color! It's a stark contrast to the eye-popping '40 coupe!:LOL: Is that yours, too?
Thanks Randy. Yes, the '40 seduced me...............what can I say..........I'm weak. Both those colors are '40 Ford. The sedan is Folkstone Grey, the coupe Vermillion Red. I find it interesting to see how much body styling changed in less than a decade during that time................much different from today.
As for the stance........I somewhat can't believe I'm saying this.....I'll be raising it slightly to account for the added weight of interior and fluids when completed, but this is pretty close to what it will end up.
Both beautiful cars, love the colors on both!
Wow, I really love them both! The sedan looks perfect IMO! The stance is just right and that color is awesome against the chrome.
I like your choice in cabinets and the work benches too. It's crazy how fast all that adds up but is so nice when you finally have it. (I'm still working on that part) Haha
Thanks Ryan. I did a write up on the "Garage Journal" for the cabinets last year when I got them installed in the other garage if you're interested: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/...d.php?t=341000
I can't believe I missed this whole thread! What the hell was I thinking? Amazing job on the garage, Uncle Bob. I am totally jealous!
I love the before, and after pics! A real tribute to the finished product.
Rich
Wow, everything looks great and I'm lovin the sedan. Your garage looks more like a trophy case than garage  I was hoping to compete with your trophy case with my outhouse but my pocket book is thin this winter and I won't have much spare time either so I'll put it off another year for the 5th year in a row
in the last picture of Uncle Bob's post #143, you can see a mysterious room with a door. This appears to be the money room where Unc Robert keeps his massive cash stash..... it is kept out of sight in case the UPS guy delivers some parts or some other visitor wanders in. Scrooge McDuck had a similar room where he kept his $$. Rumor has it that Unc Bob has racking where the cash is organized by denomination... as we all know how organized he is. His hoard is so vast that it is necessary for him to put sunglasses on some Franklins since they haven't seen the light of day for years. Nice garage there, Uncle Bob!!
