Youngest Son looking to buy '79 Camaro

My youngest son has located a 1979 Camaro SS with a 5.7 engine and it's the T-top body also. He said it has a little rust around the window and on the rocker panel on the drivers side. It supposedly drives and the owner is asking $4500 as is or $3000 as a roller and he keeps the engine and tranny. Anybody got any comments or suggestions on this car? I know nothing about a Camaro or what to look for so I told him I'd post it on a couple of Forums and see what the "experts" had to say.
Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any clue as to the value.. Bow Ties ..... yuck!

One of the slower Camaros - not that you can't fix that. Bet the T tops leak like a shower head, rust is likely in that area also. Ask him to shop a bit more and compare cars for the money. Other models (years) will have more value both in the present and future. Do a little looking.

Where is the car from? "A little rust" in the window area... REAR window? "A little rust" usually means a whole lot more when you pull the window to fix it... IF the T tops leak expect to find a lot of rust in the B and C pillars and probably the floor. This car needs to be partially disabled to determine just how bad it is. I would pass, 3K for a runner is to much.

He went and looked at it again today and found out that the driver door has to be lifted up to open and close and the passenger door won't open from the outside so he's gonna pass (thank God) and keep looking. Thanks for all the comments, they did help.

Yep, the rust you can see is usually about 10% of what's actually there when you begin taking parts off to fix it.
