Does anyone know of....

...a chassis kit out there modeled after a 20's Ford, Track-T, etc. that would have a full roll cage around the driver? I'm looking for a new project...something that would be safe (for lots of horsepower), more "racy", and wouldn't require a lot of paint...hahaha

I've been looking at a front engine V8 sand rail from East Coast Sand Rails. They incorporate an 8" or 9" rear, front mounted engine, and of course a full cage around the passengers.

If I had a choice, I'd rather have something with some "Ford" stigma attached to it.

Any ideas?

Don't know of a kit that comes with a cage, I did build a cage for one of the Speedway Track T's a number of years back.----for a couple in their 70's who wanted a toy to keep in Phoenix when they are there in the winter!!!!!!

I'd like to have something like this, maybe without those pipes, but with a nice short cage around the passengers.

Here's another option....

It's a front engine sand rail....but not your traditional sand rail. This is more of a good handling street car and is capable of supporting a large V8....I've inquired about fitting a BBF in there. :)

Is that a '26 Roadster body on the first picture? Does anyone know? The picture is titled "26roadster", but when I look up bodies, the outlines don't match...

That is a rough copy of a 1926/1927 Ford Model T body. The aftermarket bodies will seldom match the original exactly in my experience.

I think I'm getting the idea of what you're looking for, but my main question would be....are you planning to race this unit under any existing road race or drag race rules or are you just looking for a little protection in the event of a rollover? The reason I'm asking is that the sanctioning bodies are very specific about materials and configuration. If you show up with a conventional chassis like that from East Coast, it may not meet safety standards and you may not be allowed to compete. SFI (Sema Foundation, Inc.) will sell complete plans for many types of cars and different venues of racing if you'd like to build your own legal car.

Dave Severson (CHR member who has contributed to this thread) is very familiar with these plans and should be able to construct most any type of car you would want, while making it rules-legal. Take it away......Dave.

I'm bettin' that the V6 Chevy, rear-mounted model with a blower or nitrous on it would drive around a naturally-aspirated BBF front mounted motor. Also, you have to take occupant heat and noise into consideration. Have you ever driven an open, front-motor car?

Dave is a Ford guy and may take a different view completely. If I were thinkin' Ford motor, I'd be thinkin' late model aluminum block DOHC 4.6 V8, rear-mounted. They make one of the prettiest motors you can imagine when everything is polished, plated or powder coated. '93-'97 Mark VIII is the one to use, or so I've been told.

Not wanting to drag or road race, just added protection, especially with the T-bucket...

Brent, what do you think of this? I'm sure Cobra style roll bars can be added for your protection.

Just too many variables and options to shoot a price---Depends on what you want, materials and components used, and a couple hundred other variables. If I were building a track T for me, the first engine I would be considering would be the new 300 hp Ford V-6! Hooked up to a 5 speed with a quick change in the back and a car scaling at about 1900 lbs it would be just about all the fun a guy would want in a street machine!!! I've had my horribly overpowered roadster already, '27 'glass body, Deuce rails, blown 514, Doug Nash 5 speed, and a 9"...Worked great on the drag strip but with street tires it was my "mystery machine"---every time you grabbed a gear it was a mystery what direction it was going to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL:

I actually really like the look/idea of that sand rail. I wish it were a little more "streetish" if that makes any sense. I would like it to be a little closer to the ground with the engine sitting lower in the chassis. That one has an 8" rear, 4 link, etc, etc.

I just want something to play with and the idea of not having to spend $4-5k at the body shop for a paint job is rather appealing...haha

I get tired of all the small block stuff running around and most of the engines I build are 385 series and FE Fords. I like the big stuff. :)

Have you looked at Speedway's Track T packages??? They're priced right and good components! Not hard at all to add a cage to......

I have. They are certainly affordable, I'm just not in love with the looks.

Know what ya mean!!! I do like that sandrail frame, would make a nice setup for a little Hot Rod! Taking some of the angle out of the rear bars would allow the cage to be moved back and leave plenty of room for an engine and transmission up front. I have a roadster designed for me to build someday....I like unique Hot Rods!!!!!
