Brent, just so you have some info on what at least I am getting, I do click the box "remember me" so I am logged in all the time. I did the cookie routine. I keep CHR in my favorites and when I click to open it about 50% of the time I get a screen that says "server not found", or words to that effect. I have even tried going into Google, putting in CHR, and clicking on the site from there.........still get the same screen.

Then, when I am on I will click on a topic and it just sits there, won't open that thread. Or sometimes I will type out a post, go to submit it, and it freezes up and won't post it. Same happens when posting pictures, the screen that we use to search will not respond, or if you go back to edit your post it comes up and says "you are not authorized", and yet I am still logged in.

We know you are working hard on these issues, hope the input from all of us helps. The reason I feel it has to be within the site is that of the 5 forums I frequent this is the only one that does those things. One site is one that a guy just runs out of his home, and it just keeps rolling along with no interuptions. Not sure why, but it just does.

I have had the "Lost Post" deal happen to me also. It is usually a crap shoot when I put up pictures. I've figured out to not re-size the window to select pics as it will freeze up! Lost posts after typing it all out is really dis-heartening and frustrating for sure! I did happen to me on the old site once or twice too!

Brent, not trying to hammer you guys! Just trying to maybe help in some way! As always, THANK YOU!

Don and Don Jr - are you using Internet Explorer? I went to Mozilla Firefox a few years ago to try to stop lock ups and lost posts. So far, that has gotten me to a point where the computer freezes on an average of maybe once a month instead of several times a day. I have seldom had a problem here except when someone at the other end pulls the server plug. Like I've said before, the worst I get is "No Packets to Send ......." or it's a bit slow. I'm currently sitting in a heavy rain and wind storm in Upstate NY and the forum loading is actually fast so far today - subject to change once a few more folks decide to turn on their computers.

What type computer are the rest of you guys running? I have a mac and use Apples Safari browser. Sometimes I have trouble logging on (once or twice a week) and sometimes I can't load a thread or it takes forever (2 or 3 times a week). I increased my Database storage capacity in my preference and it seems to have helped some.

From what I've seen, different versions of Internet Explorer seem to react differently with the new format of this forum. I'm using either version 8 or 9 on this computer and it works pretty well (within the limitations of the new format), where the computer in the shop with it think version 6 doesn't seem to do so well.

I'm not having any of the problems you guys have mentioned .......... when the server is up I have no trouble logging on, replying to threads, posting pictures, etc. ............ I'm using Internet Explorer on a cable modem ........... it's confusing to me that some of you are having such difficulties and I'm not having any issues

Without singling out anyone in particular, I post the following:

Part of the issues appears to be the lack of software updates to some personal computers. I'm not talking about just a browser update, but a lack of system software updates. Also, updates to java have to do with some of the issues being experienced.

I suggest those having issues first clean out their system and browser cache, the simplest way to do so on a Windows based system would be to hit your start button, then click "all programs", then click "accessories"and click on the folder "system tools". Next click "disk clean" , choose all hard drives (make sure they are checked off),then make sure that all boxes are checked off when the system shows things to be deleted.

    System software wise:

Microsoft update has their own site which will show any and all Microsoft updates for your systems (some of you will need to run this more than once)
    Microsoft Update

The latest Java can be found here:

    Download Free Java Software

Finally, some of you can have malicious software (regardless of what your anti virus software co states) on your local system(s). I highly suggest the following two pieces of software to clean your system (both have free versions). This would be on top of whatever your favorite anti virus software is (provided you update it frequently)

    Malewarebytes
    Malwarebytes

    Spybot search and destroy
    The home of Spybot-S&D!

Again, updates to your system and browser can eliminate 75% of the issues at hand. The other 25% Brent is working on as fast as he can.

As always, hope you find this helpful.

No Bill, once again it is being suggested this is caused on our end. If that is the case, why does it only happen here? I'm on at least 5 forums and they all work perfectly well 100% of the time, and I spend at least as much time on there as I do here.

This is so deja vu of what happened several years ago when my user name kept getting booted off and I was being told I was doing something to cause it. Then other people started coming forward and saying they were also having the same problems, so I said "I told you so !"

I also use Internet Explorer and Mozilla, and it doesn't matter which one I am on I still experience the same problems at exactly the same times. There is something goofy in the site, Bill, and why it affects only some of us is a mystery, but it does, and it is very frustrating that it happens so often.

As for updating the systems, my computer is almost new and updates itself automatically, and one of the computers my Son Don is using is maintained professionally by IT guys, so it is very current. You just aren't getting that these problems ONLY happen HERE.

Very interesting thread and thanks Bill for the links.

I also have none of the issues mentioned other then sometimes the site is down and Brents sites (CHR, Club Chopper & Club Cobra) seem to be down more often then any other site that I frequent. Don't know why that is though.

I do have auto update turned for my windows (XP PRO) and my antivirus on so my computer is always current. I still manually update from Microsoft every other month or so. I also run CCleaner once a month.

The other thing (and I am unsure if this helps this situation or not), How many of you open up your computers and clean all of the accumulated dust from them? I have to do that once a month also (very dusty here in central Ca.). All of that dust can really play havoc on the drives (CD/DVD), cooling fans and can overheat your computer.

    Don,

As I stated, 75% is not the forum, 25% is....Again, I'm not saying some of the issues are not ours, clearly they are and your original account was an anomaly that could not be fixed (corrupt files and such, yours being just one of twenty or so)........

My own brother in law tells me his friend (a senior IT professional) takes care of his system weekly when over playing poker. Recently the system has been acting up,so while visiting I do my own scans (with the two programs above) and find a world of troubles. Also find some non high profile patches for his XP system (and his daughters Win7 system), update his JAVA,and clean house with disk clean.Funny, all is well now.........

Again, at least Brent is trying to repair it, all while dealing with his own full time job, family, travel, etc So complain if you must, but realize that the complaints are not falling on deaf ears........

As for me, I'm in and out cleaning up debris, painting my customer "retail" area (gutted it on Friday evening, will be back in one piece by 7am Monday morning), and dealing with the fallen trees against the building (have chainsaw, awaiting winds to die down). On top of that, I am just the mod here, with no admin access (nor do I want it Brent ) to the servers........

Thanks, Bill. No one is trying to pile on you guys, Lord knows you and Brent do a good job and a thankless one to boot. Rather than call them complaints I prefer to call them feedback. You have no other way of knowing what we out here in space are experiencing unless we tell you. And we don't even charge for that service !!

Don't suppose this helps, but I don't have any of these issues using Safari or Firefox on my Mac. I hope it all gets worked out, because I get more encouraging feedback from you guys on this site than ANY of the others I frequent.

    Don,

In your preferences you can add "CHR RSS Feeder" to your ignore list. Then you will not see anything posted by the automated feed.

Yes, it really is that simple .
