Brent, thanks for the Active users! Regarding the posts count, I wasn't concerned with the actual number of posts that I had, it's only a number and there is only a difference of approximately 20-25. I was wondering if any of my posts were missing from the threads I posted in. Don't worry about trying to fix this, it's a very minor detail, you have enough work to do with the change over!!!

BTW, it's looking better each time I return.

I lost 3,811 posts in the changeover. Should be 10,038. I just posted same in the Lounge.

When you click "new posts" in the upper left, the posts come up, but the first seven have the poster's name, forum, last post and the time all overlaid on each other so you can't read it.

There is a bar at the bottom of the page that moves the whole page to the left. When I post a new post, the page jumps to the left about 1 1/2 inches and I have to use that slider bar to move the page back to the right so I can read the page again.

Oh, and the color is very soothing. Nice.

    Brent,

I like the background much better now. Two other sites that I belong to have changed to this program and it takes time to get everything figured out. One site has an option where the member can put whatever color background he wants on his page and posts but I haven't tried it as I like the blue he has which is the same as what you have. The glaring white was hard on my old eyes. I will be poking around as I have time and see if I can uncover any minor stuff. Then Bill can tell me how dumb I am and you can take a look at it. I like this format.

Well, looks like I had a slight advantage in that I was away from computers when the change-over occured so missed out on the first couple of days of angst some suffered. Still, it's taking some getting used to, but nothing overwhelming. That being said, Brent, even though folks here aren't exactly "paying customers" using a little marketing (yeah, I know, you're a techno-geek ) strategy probably would have helped. I read the reply to Bill about it being a somewhat spur of the moment opportunity to activate, but it probably would have been wiser to put out a detailed announcement ahead of time warning that a necessary and significant change (the less tech savvy the more significant it appears) was about to occur. Resistence to change can be ameliorated by some expression of care ahead of time. But that's all water over the dam now and those that bail just because of a modest change in format probably weren't all that bonded to the site anyway. Some may have to sit it out to recognize how attached they'd become and will work up the desire to work through the changes. Perhaps a thread titled and directed at how to reformat the new config to resemble as closely as possible the previous one would be helpful/desirable.

To that end let me alert you to one that I think would help a lot (actually an expansion on a comment Roger made earlier). In this current format there are 4 ways to respond to an existing thread; three by radio button, one by clicking in the "Quick Reply" box. This last one is just as before so shouldn't be "new" to anyone familiar with the previous format. The radio buttons, when clicked, all drop the cursor to the "Quick Reply" box. The "Quote" button creating the quotation to reply to (you must have fixed something since this morning when the "Reply" button was also doing the quote). Right now, as I type, the "Post Reply" button outside the post box (near both top and bottom of page), does the same thing as the "Reply" button within the thread post box of each post. In any of the four modes; "Quick Reply", "Quote", "Reply", or "Post Reply" it's necessary to click on the "Go Advanced" to be able to use emoticons and the picture attachment features. I would suggest you do whatever magic you do to make the "Post Reply" button go directly to the page that includes "Go Advanced" features as it did in the previous version, that way there is that much less change for folks to deal with and saves a key stroke or two. The additional advantage is that, for those that take time to proof read what they typed before hitting the enter button, there would be less scrolling needed.

There will be other suggestions as time goes on I'm sure, but right now that's another item that would bring the feel of the site back to what most were accustomed to.

I just got on,had to log in again. I didn't know the site had been up for days. I wasn't looking at the instructions on the page that was coming up when trying to log on the old way from my favorites list.

Change is good for us old farts, keeps the brain fresh.

I like the new format, good choice Bret.

I like the way you could pick the thread on the side before.
But like anyone I can get used to change, as long as I can figure out how everything works again.
You guys have always done great with the site so hopefully it's a improvement in the long run.
To me Easy is always better, That way a good mechanic does not shy away because
he feels the he need computer classes just to log in.
By the way how do we post new threads???

It is the same as before, at least the way I did it. Click the "Forum" tab at the top just under the logo. That will take you to the list of sub-forums. Choose the one you want, click it, and at the top of that sub-forum page is the "new thread" radio button, click that and rock on.......

    Brent/Bill,

Sorry if it seems I am fawning around on different threads with my comments. It has been hard to find my way around with this computer. So if you hadn't seen my comments yet.........Here is my concern.I lost afew months ago my XP computer which force me to use this back-up computer which is a windows 98.The change it's self is good and it is my plea to you guys somehow you could make the upload times faster for this old 98.I didn't intend to up grade the computer for awhile because the money is going into the shop, equipment, projects. So I don't mind the change at all.I'm just looking for some sort of relief to go from one thread to another. In fact sometimes I get a script warning that the script has stopped running. And although I posted to another section,my question about posting pic from a photobucket account tomorrow in I would want to copy from that account and just paste to a thread here. Not photo gallery material, but just photo's to tell the story of the thread.I'll check this thread tomorrow before I go to the public library to post the pics.
    Good Bye

Brent, It looks better to me. Still confusing. 2 things, one the recent activity is organized, well it's not. Our old page, as Don mentioned. The most recent activity was first and so on, so it was easy to see the most recent thread posted to. there appears to be no ryme or reason to the way it displays now. I don't know if it's not functioning properly or thats the way it is. The newer section below recent posts would be ok if it showed the last post to a particular thread, that would be more like we were used to, but it's kinda confusing becaust it shows posts to the same threads. Again I don't know if thats how it's supposed to function. I think I may be missing whats going on, and it get confusing seeing posts to the same thread over, rather the only the most recent post to a particular thread. I do like the fact the gallery is on the front page again, and also the color change. I'm not going to say much more about it. It's your deal. Do as you see fit. And I may find somthing new I like. I can always change the channel...................... Oh and the Advanced is not displaying correctly. I really hope there is some benifit to you with this change, because I think it..........................

If you click the "Today's Posts" toward the top of the page (farthest right hot link button) you'll get the format you were accustomed to.

Thanks Bob, that's much better. Like everything else, the better they make it the longer it takes me to get to where I'm going. ..................... oh well.............
