    Hello, my name is Bob.....

......and I'm an autoholic. Hi Bob!

So, my bride says I'm a packrat. Absolutely not!!!! It's just that I either keep things, or acquire new things that I just haven't figured out quite what I'm going to do with it/them. My favorite story whenever she gives me THAT look is the time she brought home some hanging plants for the front porch. Hung them by the wire bales they come with and, standing back, she says something like, "those would look better if they hung just a few inches lower." I trot into the garage, go to one of the little storage bins I have and pull out a couple lengths of small link chain. TaDa!! Hangs perfect! "SEE" I say, "THAT'S why I keep that silly littl stuff!" Win one for the packrats!

So this weekend we take a trek down to Portland to pick up some potential hot rod material. Like I say, sometimes it takes awhile to figure out just what exactly to do with some stuff. Last week I picked up front and rear suspension assemblies from a '47 Ford and have been cleaning up the individual parts and selling them. But back to this past weekends stuff.

I'm now the owner of sheets of 20 gauge steel punched full of louvers. Almost 3000 louvers to be exact. The panels are mostly the size that would work for grafting to a hood, or for a smaller car, a complete hood side. These were punched on a CNC machine so are dead straight and consistent in shape. Pretty neat pieces. In the second picture are some that are the size of license plates, both in steel and aluminum. Some folks use them to cover up the exposed backsides of license plates that hang off pedestal mounted tail lights. I see them as making interesting glove box doors on certain cars. The hood size ones might also make interesting cabinet door skins. The possibilities are endless. Post up some more ideas if you wish.

Then just for grins I clamped one up on the '28 to test an idea I've been playing with.

It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Yeah, last night I was measuring the underside of those '32 rails and four sheets of those three row staggers will work just fine. Covering the tail section behind the axle might take a purpose built piece though.

Eastwood Co. sold them as pre-punched panels to folks who didn't have a louver shop nearby, or wanted to put louvers on a difficult to punch panel. I suppose they would appeal to the glass car market too. I got them from the guy who manufactured them.

Mr. Bob, I am building a boat. Will these panels work for the hull and transom?

Hi Uncle Bob, I absolutely want your model A, it looks awesome on those '32 rails but just quietly, lose the odd looking grille please but please don't put a '32 grille on it,that is just so over done now.
After completing the Bucket when I'm back at work earning money again, a '29 A 5 window with flatty etc is on my next build list. Probably will be a fibreglass body but I don't care as the standard of the bodies over here is excellent.
The company I worked for when I first moved to Auckland used to manufacture panels like that also for an Electrical company making cabinets etc for switch boards.
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Well Whip, if you don't like my grille, you're probably not going to care much for what I actually have planned for hood sides. And part of why I'm going this direction with the grille is because I agree with you that the Deuce grille has just been done to death.

But now, here's some irony for you. My next installment (part wise) on this thread will be a pile of parts that will be the start of a hiboy A coupe. My first preference would be the '28-9, but if the right body comes along I'll even take a 30-1.

Here's some inspiration for you. (us?) Now all I've got to do is get my buddy kenny to "enable" me again with a good coupe body.

And Whip, just to pound on you some more, here's a different angle on your "favorite" grille.
