I asked them about the different ways of cooling them. He said the nitrogen was more controlable. They found that the cooling was so sensitive to the final hardness and nitrogen gave them more control. I thought they dumped it in oil also.
I got a call from them today and said they were done. They look "PINK", I mean purple :LOL:
I was curious if they would polish also so I just ran over one leaf and it seemed ok. I will do a more serious effort tomorrow..

Thanks for the info on the spring shop, Ken! got to get a lot of things put together and the car on the scales before I could have even a semi-intelligent conversation about the spring requirements!!!!
Springs came out looking really first rate, hope the heat treatment didn't have any effect on the quality of the polish!
Looks like they polish up nicely! A good contact(auto parts) is worth their weight in gold!
I worked on the rear spring this week end, got it to 1500 grit paper like the frame. I was really hoping that the heat treating wouldn't make the spring un polish able, but actually it came around easier than the 304 the frame is made of. **) go figure.

Boy, that is really pretty! :eek: If it looks that good with just a little work it should look spectacular when you get done with it. I wish you guys would stop raising the bar............it's so high now I can't even touch it. :o

Ken those have really come out nice! I hope you never plan on driving in the rain, or a heavy bug storm, it'll take weeks to re-polish everything!:LOL:

Thanks you guy's, honestly I was worried that they wouldn't come around. The 17 4 has a high nickel content so that has to of helped. Can't wait to polish one to see just how good it will get.

Thanks Don Jr, I had my doubts!!
I took my block to get it acid bathed to try and get all the carbon and rust out of the ports and water jackets. It came pretty good, then took it to have it hot tanked.
Bolted everything together and am close to putting it in the frame rails to see where everything is going to go.

Ken, given all the polished stuff, I just had a thought:
"when you take this car to a parade, dont let them put you
behind the horses" would not be a pretty clean up job

Those springs sure are turning out nice. Any guessesd as to how the spring rate will compare to henry's steel?
Seeing the picture of the block made me grin like the cat that ate the canary. I wait with 'bated breath for the heads and the assembly, then, the starting. :D:D:D
Just wait until people see it at a show and start counting spark plugs. The comments will be interesting, to say the least. :LOL:

Ken,I reckon that V12 is gunna look absolutely unreal sitting in between those rails..And,yeah,when folks start counting plugs,,,:D:D..Are ya gunna hand out cheap plastic shades at the shows,so people dont get too much glare off all that stainless??:D

I was missing this thread and wondered if anyone has heard from Ken about any progress he's made. Ken if you are lurking post an update! :)
Last time I emailed Ken was a couple of months ago and at that time he was just super busy with his businesses. I really really miss Ken on this forum. He was always one of the builders who had such neat stuff to drool over and if there is a nicer, more humble man on this planet I have yet to meet him.
I wish he would just pop in from time to time to let us know how he and the family are doing.

Ken is still mostly busy with business decisions/structuring at our last conversation a few weeks ago. The good news is, once he's got that all handled he should have more time to get back on the projects full bore. As for returning to posting, we'll see.........

I too miss seeing him on here. His projects are especially fun to see come together. He needs to come back and take some of the load off Steve (Roadster32). He can't create all the stainless parts on this forum himself after all!
I too miss Kens input into this forum, The loss of another constructive rodder from this forum due to changes makes me sad.

Obviously I can't speak for Ken or his reasons for not posting these days, but I kinda just get the feeling it lost some of it's fun for him. I really don't feel it had anything to do with CHR specifically, just forums in general. I think we all go through that where sometimes we feel like participating on forums and sometimes we can't muster up the energy or enthusiasm to do it. He has also mentioned that his businesses have really started to consume a lot of his time and in this strange economy we all know how that can be.
I did drop him an email yesterday and mentioned again how we miss him and his posts, but haven't heard back yet.

I got an email from Ken today, at first I thought it was a joke, but then I realized he has contacts in So. Florida too.
Pops and Langy were in a bar when Steve was visiting a few weeks back. Pops looked across the bar and pointed to a couple old guys looking a bit tired and haggard saying; "There ya go Steve, that's what we'll look like in 10 years!"
Steve turn to Pops and said; "That's a mirror mate!"

Okay, so Ken also sent some pics of the v12 engine he's doing. This is it's current state and he mentioned he's still working on the Ardun style heads for future application. Enjoy...........
Wow,that is truly a beautiful piece of automotive artwork and heck it just makes me hungry for a dose of the whole car to brings us to speed on where Ken is with it. It is so sad that we miss out on viewing Kens extra ordinary building skills as he and Steve Lang are certainly on a much higher level then I will ever be. With Don, Itoldyouso, I can keep in touch with him on the Hamb but that isn't the same site as this in way it is so stilted and everybody jumps down your throat if you go slightly off topic, so differently no Uncle Bob's humour allowed. Actually I have noticed that it has a huge number of members that haven't even posted and although the site has been around for a number of years, it is stagnant. That is my view anyway.
