I went and got a quote through Hagerty and they want 641 per year at 30k in coverage on the car. My normal insurance provider wont cover the street rod yet they covered my 69 mustang as a classic w/ 25k of insurance on that(cant really figure that out).

In my area, in Canada, my rate in $247.00, for full coverage, except glass, 1 million dollar liability,$100.00 deductible,through a company called Aviva, (Not sure if this is a USA company or only in Canada. A freind of mine has used them for years, had a few claims and never a problem.Brian

You might ask them how much of that premium is linked to your age, which was stated to be 25 in your first post not long ago. I expect that is jacking your premium some.
I am in S.C. and have my insurance with Grundy. Excellent coverage at $188 per year on $20,000 replacement.
Comparing premium rates across state lines is pretty much a waste of time. Each state has it's own requirements for minimum coverages for such things as uninsured motorist, property damage, personal liability, and so on. Secondly the insurance company calculates loss probability based on local loss experience. So, for instance, if you live in a high auto theft area, the likelihood of theft is higher, therefore the premiums will be higher. Also, for example, if you lived in a comparatively low crime, low population area like South Dakota, your premiums for the same company, same car, same valuation, same driver profile, would be lower because the risks for loss would be lower.
I have policies on old cars with both Hagerty and Grundy. On completed, road worthy cars I use Grundy because in comparison of IDENTICAL coverage their premiums are somewhat lower. However, they would not cover my cars under construction, but Hagerty will. In your area, others of the companies that some may recommend may be more competitive, but it's up to you to do the legwork to get quotes for exactly the same coverage to determine who will give you the best overall deal.
Ya, The age thing is probably a big factor for sure.
I have been with Grundy for over seven years. They easy to work with and IMO have very fair rates for the coverage. Not sure you can compare rates state to state because of all of the variables.
I see that AAA is trying to get into the collector car business and have had booths at many car shows. It made sense to me that I have all of my insurance policies with a single company (my home, car, p/u truck, motorcycle, and my hot rod). So I stopped by to talk it over with the AAA collector car insurance rep's at Del Mar Good Guys and have them give me a quote. They called me back three weeks later, and told me that they would be happy to write my hot rod for the $45K agreed value (at the same rate as my current Grundy policy). But they could not increase the policy value to the $65K that I desired, because they place the policy value ON THE AVERAGE PRICE OF A 1932 FORD ROADSTER AT AUCTION, and NO 1932 FORD ROADSTER IS WORTH MORE THAN $45k! I told them that they have to be kidding, there is no average car, only a average of prices between many different quality levels of cars. This is not agreed value, it's more like stated value. They obviously have underwriters that do not understand the collector car market (yet), IMO.
I renewed again with Grundy. They made the change in agreed value and sent me a bill with 30 day terms, very easy.

Yea my age probably does have something to do with it but im not sure as "adult rate" here supposidly starts at 25. Im fortunate to have a car like this and just happened to be in the right place at the right time, ive been spending hours in the garage with her going over and cleaning every nut and bolt.
I've had Sneed but Grundy was about half of their price on my agreed value of $35K @$316. Hagerty was significantly more and with driving limitations for miles and type of driving (parades, shows etc) - at least for NY State.
I think like so many times I have been advise,you can never have too much insurance.If a claim is resolved in court and it goes beyond the coverage,you pay.That could get very scarcely in a hurry.Also the replacement costs of our beloved hot rods in a crash without enough coverage could be a real heart breaker.
Well I went and received a quote from grundy at 195 I think thats every 6 months so that a little more reasonable. So I submitted that and should be good to go.

Yea hagerty seems outrageous on a car that im lucky to drive 2000 miles a year that sits 98% of the time and never sees weather. Not to mention around here will be parked 5 months out of the year.
Grundy, agreed value 35000. 2000 miles a year, 70 years old, 225 a year.
Grundy, $30k replacement, agreed value on a 1926 T Tudor, 58 year old guy, 171 a year.
Hagerty-$20K agreed value on my t bucket-$331 a year. Just renewed with them. Could not have made it easier. Don Jr.
So what exactly is the difference between Grundy and Hagerty. They both seem to offer the same amount of coverage and as im noticing it's a trend that Hagerty seems to be double or more for the same amount of coverage.
Hagerty's dings with one thing I found out when I was shopping the engine. if it's not the same type engine they classify it as modified and Grundy does not.
just remember cheap insurance is not always the best make sure you read everything don't wait till you need the insurance and it's no good. Get the most you can afford.
I just went with Hagerty yesterday and it was $513 a year 0 deductible with no mileage restrictions on my 29 coupe.
I'm still trying to figure out whether it's "Stated" or "Agreed" (don't see anything like that in the paperwork), but it does say "Gauranteed Value" of $30,000 on my declarations page :HMMM:

My roadster is appraised & insured w/ Grundy for 125k
I'm 60 & I pay around $550.00 a year.
I had a major claim w/ Grundy a few years back & they were great to work with. I highly recommend them.
Just renewed mine with Grundy for $46k agreed value coverage, no deductible, no mileage limit, $500,000 liability, trip interruption. I'm 60 with a clean driving record. While there is no mileage limit, they do specify that the car can not be used for daily driver, should not be used to go to the store or to work or school. My cost is $336 per year.

My Grundy costs were for $40K plus $500K liability, etc, etc, etc and I am over 65 with a clean record is $263/year. No limits on driving miles, but they do say not to drive to work or errands.This is much cheaper then my regular insurance which in NY State is unreal, even with my good driving record
I just got my Hagerty bill and it went down $20. Don't ask me why but I'll take it. I shopped Grundy first a few years ago when I switched to collector car insurance and, at the time, they would not write Corvettes. Also 2 of my cars, a '59 Vette and the '69 stepside were projects which they won't cover. So I went with Hagerty.
It's $562 a year for 2 Corvettes and the Stepside on $55,000. agreed value, total.
I wonder what would happen if you had a completed car with Grundy and decided to tear it down for a total rebuild. Would you have to remove it from your Grundy policy until it was finished or would they drop it if you had a claim and found out the car had switched from drivable to project.
I'm not picking on Grundy here. Other companies won't write projects either. Hot Rodders being what they are, cars often switch from drivers to projects and, hopefully, back to drivers again. I would just hate to find out after I filed a claim that my car would not be covered because I had it blown apart for a chassis rebuild and detail.

Costs more ($450 to $500 annually vs $300 Grundy, $400 Chrome), and a total loss claim is likely going to be a hassle on the settlement amount vs "agreed value", but in my situation going with my regular carrier is going to be the answer - no mileage restrictions, no event restrictions, no hassles - just another vehicle to them.Quote:

I've got State Farm agreed value on my '71 pickup ($22.000) and my Mustang ($25,000) with a 3500 mile restriction on both, costs me $240 for both--But, I also have my house, house on the farm and the buildings there, and numerous other policies with them and have for better then 20 years. Put 3 miles on the pickup and 20 passes on the Mustang this year......so for me the mileage restriction is a non-issue.....
However, as "other Dave" mentioned, Grundy covers a car while under construction and being transported so I have a couple project cars insured with them. Same would say I pay way too much for insurance coverage, but having lost 3 of my cars in someone else's shop fire many years back, and the resulting total right off and NO insurance check from anyone I guess I don't mind. Yeah, I could of sued the guy who didn't have his shop insured, but he'd just lost everything in the fire and there was nothing left of his for me to get!!! Just an expensive lesson on insurance that the lowest rate is not always the best coverage!!!!
Make sure you know what your coverage is, and can afford the cost of a total loss if the worst should happen!!!!
I guess then based on the past household driving history I don't have too much to worry about so far with Grundy. I got a suspicious stop light ticket about 10 years ago which was cheaper to pay then challenge, and my wife tried to widen the garage entry way with her car, but I paid that "ding" out of pocket. Luckily, my insurance carrier, AMICA, forgave the one ticket.

i have had Hagerty for two years .i may be looking for someone new? both car are under insured 30.000 for both cars it is $1000. a year they know what i have under the hoods .i like to think i am a good driver i miss more then i hit. i did have one fender bender . they did get me for a 55 in a 45 so the speeding ticket is what they seen . so i do not know if i am getting a good deal or not...but i know i have taken both cars out less the 4 times a year and its costing $250 for a 5 mile run :( i am going to look in to Grundy see if there better or just sell the cars ?any one want a very mild warm over 66GTO and a allmost stock chevy coup

I have had Grundy on several cars . Great company and easy to work with . Have 40K replacement on the 51 and its classified as a custom .Cost $326 a year . Im 72 but I dont think age matters .

i had haggerty for 3 years and was very happy. then my youngest son got his license and wanted to drive my car to shows. so i contacted haggerty to add him. they dropped me. so i told them that i would not let him drive the car. they told me i had to add him because he lived in my house and they would not cover it. so i hunted around and got a great rate with no restrictions on me or my son from geico.
