No i have not picked it up yet. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. where i found it is in the middle of nowhere. One thing though how do i get a title for this car i found a site but they want be to have a bill of sale form the guy and have it notarized. can i give it to him when i pick it up and have him send it to me when he got it notarized and then go get it notarized myself or do we both have to get it done at the same time? Oh one more thing there was another starliner sitting out there BUT it was in sad shape someone cut the roof off from right behind the doors to the bottom of the windsheild but i guess thats more parts for me ill take a picture of it when i go to pick the other one up. thanks for convincing me haha like it was hard to do. anymore info on these cars would be great

When the question about a project car is " Should I buy it?", the answer is always "Yes."

If you are going by the book the notary must witness both signatures in order to afix his/her seal and notarize the document. In my experience bills of sale are not normally notarized - they are a simple contract conveying ownership. Your salvage yard should give you a bill of sale, and he may have a salvage title - not likely for a small yard with only old stuff, but possible. You'll need to call your county DMV to see what they require, IMO.

I'd be on that thing like stink on last month's garbage!!!!!! I'd figure out how to get a title, and do whatever I had to do get it. Man, they make the coolest customs, and that old 390 can be made to put out more then respectable performance, too!!!! If you decide to pass on it, let me know!!!! Sure would hate to see it get away.....

The only reason i asked is because i would be going through a company online, that sells you a title for any car. They just need all the cars info and a bill of sell that is notarized. and they do all the hard work. So what if i cant get the guy to come with me to a bank or court house? He has a few thousand cars. I am doubting he has a bill of sale or title for for half the cars let alone all of them. So his name would have never been on the title and/or the DMV records so i could just have a friend go with me to a bank and have it notarized saying i bought it from him if anyone asks he can just say he bought it from a guy and and he never got the title from him and cant find him to get it so he gave up and sold it to me. no big deal Right?

In these days of electronic records I would not even think about the "title company" - that is considered fraud by most states, and can get you into varying amounts of trouble, depending on how your local DMV and state of NE want to play. A bill of sale is simply a statement from one person to another, stating that as Owner he is selling to you all rights to the property. There is nothing in DMV about a BOS - you use it to establish ownership to get a title. Getting a buddy to lie about selling you the car is dancing with the devil, IMO. Today a legit salvage yard sends the VIN of the cars in, and the DMV knows that the car has been salvaged, not stolen. Your "washed" title that you buy won't match numbers with your car, and if you look carefully they will tell you the title is sold as a collectible, not to be used as a legal document , yeah right. Do it right, get a BOS, and walk through the process with your DMV, but don't wait until you've sunk $1,000's of dollars into the build....

You'd have to check with DMV but here in CT any car 25 years or older doesn't require a title to register. Just a bill of sale here. My Cougar is a 68 and was bought from CA. The seller did have the title but CT DMV looked at it and handed it back to me and said it wasn't needed and just used the bill of sale. They won't issue a CT title for the car either. I'd just be certain to check with your DMV. I skimmed thru the link above but didn't see anything about older cars. I could have easily missed it though. LOL. I would also be sure you get something as a bill of sale from the guy selling you the car. Or have the VIN checked out to be sure it not stolen. Depending on how long it's been off the road there might not be any DMV records. BTW those are a smokin deal and you better snatch them up!!! Good luck and hopefully everything works out alright!
