    mercury marquie 2-door

this is new territory for me but i have a chance to pick up a mercury 2-door i don't know what year it is. 2-doors were made from when to when? it has a 302 with fuel injection valve body instead of of a carb. is this a computor controled engine?i'm old school i quit working on cars when they became hi-tech.i owned a mobile repair service in the 70's and early 80's. what i want to do is install a very healthy 302(306)/4-speed manual. i have every thing figured out except the computer. can i rip out the computer and rewire the engine.so it runs with out the computer? and what rear dose this car have? i live in an area that has no emmisions requirements.i think it's a 1984 not sure the dash is tore up and can't find the data or vin number?

not sure about the rear, but it should be an 8.8" I think.. as for the EFI. it's EEC III, and CFI injection, which pretty much is a 2bbl carb with a fuel injector stuck in the middle... that part of the wiring harness could be removed if you want a carb.. you would just need a 12v ignition source then, and not even the CEL will come on with everything gone..

as for the year.. the engine emissions tag should be on a valve cover... might not have a year, but if you look at the tag P/N it will start with a letter and then a number... so an '84 would be E4
