I'v been looking for a cheap old truck cab for a bobber truck build for a while.. found 1 on Ebay going cheap, kinda close ( 4 hr drive ).. have my '98 Ranger which gets around 28 MPG so the trip will cost a calculated estimate of $20 in gas.. still really cheap... but I just need to know the cab will fit in the back of my Ranger?.. 6ft shortbox... 4cyl 5spd

56" wide.. I'll have to measure tomorrow.. 59" width is no problem if I put it in the bed sideways.. just don't know about the 56" between the tire wells
This is my Ranger... I won't start until I finish the '51, but the Bobber truck just might replace this truck if I can get the stuff to build it cheap enough... I figure if I clean this truck up and make it look cool, I'll make a little somthing on it, and it gets 28 MPG in the meantime...
1st picture is when I brought it home. 2nd pic is what it looks like now.. fixed rusted gas door and ditched the tool box in favor of the tonneau and got 2 Cooper cobra's for the rear.. think I'll get a rollpan, and diffrent mirrors and call it good... also 2 more Cooper cobra's for the front...

Put a mattress in the bed of the Ranger and load the cab in roof-down.

Maybe Tech's way would work if you can get it strapped down well enough. Or if you ain't got an old mattress, maybe a rental trailer might be best.
If all else fails borrow or rent a small trailer to get it home, plus it'll be easier to get on & off of the trailer then from the bed of your truck....joe
Put some 4x4's across the top of the bed and carry it on top of the
bed.....it'll make the little bugger top heavy but it will work.

I had an 85 Ranger (long bed) and the bed had notches on the sides so you could put 2 x 4's across between the sides allowing you to put a plywood false floor above the wheel wells. I am not sure whether they had this on the short bed or whether the 1998's still had those.
I do belive my '92 Ranger has those provisions.. but I know the '98 doesn't, and I took the '92 off the road..Quote:
