Yep, we were there. We were in the open field to the left of the participant entrance (as viewed from entering the fairgrounds). It is always a great show.

Time to start thinking about how to attach the spring to the control arm.
I currently have two ideas. The first is to cut the spring hangers off of the ford wishbones and then cut them apart so that the pivot can be rotated to the right orientation and the welded and ground to look like they were forged that way....and then welded to the top of the control arms. The gooseneck would be pointed up.
The ford parts look like this. The shackle part would be turned 90* or so.

The other idea is to fab up something like the t-bucket I saw at Bonneville. Not nearly as "old looking", but should be functional.

Anybody got any better ideas?
For those that haven't figured out what I was talking about. Actual placement may be in a slightly different spot (left to right).

Great looking job with the brackets!....................................and my wife gives a nod with your view on penetration..................like that's a surprise!
Darn! The one part of the grounds we didn't explore!:( We got there a little before 10:00 AM. We went to the first road south of where you turn to go in the main entrance and entered through the back gate. There was almost no line there (20 - 30 minute wait at the main entrance). My old feet gave out on me about 3:30 (collapsed arch & arthritis) and I had to get off of them, so we headed home. It had been 30 years since my last visit to that run and it's still one of the best.:3dSMILE:
As for your spring shackle attachments - although either idea should work, I think it may be easier to make something similar to the T-bucket ones than trying to use the old ones...:HMMM:
Went to the Pumpkin run today and hit the swap meet. I bought another set of square u-bolts. Hopefully these will work.
I also bought a gas tank of unknown origin. I'm guessing teens or twenties. it has a built in gas gauge (go to the back of car to check fuel level).
And a spare tire cover that I plan on cutting into cycle fenders.
Looks like I am going to get to work on the car this weekend. Not 100% sure what the next step should be.
I'm guessing that it should be to permanently mount the front crossmember and mount lower control arms. Once the arms are set, I should be able to plant my shackle hangers in the right spot.
That will probably tie up the whole weekend. If it doesn't, I will try and nail down the design for motor mounts and the path for the steering shaft....right now they look like they will be competing for the same space. I probably need to figure that out be fore I move to the upper control arm fab process.
Looking good, Flipper! Are you going stock Jag on the engine/trans?
Shit happened and I did not make it to dad's house.
There was a wreck going the other direction. One of the cars crossed the centerline and I collided with them head on at 45 mph.
I don't have any broken bones or life threatening injuries, but I feel like I was thrown off of a 5 story building and landed in the grass.....I look ok, but everything hurts.
The little red car is screwed.

Dang, that sux! Hope your feeling better and happy to hear nothing is life threatening!
Wow sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear you made it out alive. It's surprising to me that both cars look to have somewhat equal damage. So they crossed the middle of the road to get out of accident traffic and caused another accident with you? Crazy...
Yikes, that was a nasty hit. Glad to hear you are O.K. Might need some ibuprophen for a few days for pulled muscles. Watch out for any late pain related to whiplash. If you start to feel stiffer as the week goes on might want to get it checked out. I was hit from behind on the freeway a few years back. Seemed like I was fine until two hours later I couldn't turn my head. Mostly stiff muscles, which hot and cold packs helped and Ibuprophen did wonders!
The pathfinder was actually involved in two crashes. She rearended another car (the gray 4 door in the first picture) and then came into my lane and hit me head on.
Heck Flip, It wasn't me as I saw someone mention whiplash. Is that your little red car that you and your son drove all the way out to speed week and back safely in??? Wow, you are so lucky and as others have mentioned, look after yourself and if you still feel pain in the next while, go get it check out.
Yep. Lots of great memories in the 318,000 miles I put on that car. Lots of cross country parts runs, three detroit autoramas...including the one with the blizzard that dropped 20 inches of snow in Ohio and a bunch of other car shows that I went to as a spectator. I hope I can find another one for what insurance gives me.

Hell what a shame but also a blessing that you were not hurt, goodness that still must of been frightening. Now tell me, was the airbags the cause of the windscreen breaking as I hope or something worse. And did you really have all those headers etc in that small trunk???:)
Wow, good thing you made it out of that one! It looks like that little Toyota protected you pretty well considering it's size.
I finally feel like digging in a getting some more work done. I'm getting over the whiplash pretty well. I'd say 90% gone.
I plan on going to dad's house next weekend come hell or high water. There should be new pictures soon!
Hey flipper i've only just found this thread but i'm watching with interest :)
sorry to hear about your accident and hope you recover 100% quickly.
I finally did something! I mounted my front spring.
After a whole lot of looking, I decided the spring belonged close to the front of the crossmember.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/IMG_0116.jpg
The fun started when I tried to figure out how to align the u-bolts. There isn't a straight line on my crossmember to use as a reference point.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/IMG_0117.jpg
Next issue was where the threads were on my bolts. I built a platform under the crossmember to have a nice flat surface to bolt to. The lovely seam down the middle is where I had to adjust the hole location on the platform. One chopsaw width was about perfect.

Bad deal about your 318,000 mile car, glad your ok, got your moneys worth out of that girl I would say. She was serving you right to the end. Thats one time where a guy is happy NOT to be driving your street rod!
I'm seriously thinking about cutting the firewall and transmission tunnel out of of the donor jag and grafting it into this car to make the registration process a little more legitimate.
Anybody think having jag sheetmetal in the center of the car would be worth the effort?
Depends on your state's position on registering a custom fabricated vehicle. In Missouri it would be worth the effort; they're pretty tough on anything to do with vehicles.
Here's a link to the process in Kentucky, compiled by SEMA SAN, just for grins. Not sure you will gain anything by incorporating the firewall & tunnel, but you may want to chat with your local vehicle registration office. Some states might look at that as potential fraud (saying that you attempted to register a homebuilt vehicle as a Jag). Every state has their process...

Went down to the family junkyard in Mississippi
It really didn't take long to harvest the jag pieces. A small generator and a sawsall helped.

I had heard stories about it, but had never seen it until this weekend.
it is a 1958 Jaguar XK150S that my dad parted out in 1962 ....and then pushed into a ditch and covered with dirt (trying to control errosion). Sometime since then, it was washed back out and moved about 100 ft from where it was planted.

This is what I want to graft into Roofus. The trans tunnel and the stock jag brake and clutch pedals.

Using the jag tunnel means the deep engine set-back is back. I cut out the tube that was under the bell housing.

It will wait until another weekend. I had to go watch basketball (Go UK!)
I started trying to put the jag firewall inside of my boattail. Jag was at least a foot wider. A sawsall can fix that.

No telling how many times I removed and installed the floor and/or engine this past weekend. I quit counting after 15 or so times.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/IMG_0261.jpg
The pile of parts kept getting bigger and the floor/firewall got smaller.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...8/IMG_0263.jpg
I decided I need to lower the motor to get the floor to fit better. First I had to install a crossmember unter the motor.

I got frustrated with the trans tunnel and moved to the front of the car. I needed more beef to weld the front crossmember to. 1.5 x 1.5 angle attached with a ton of rosette welds.

Great job, Flipper. Lots of thought going into this; I can see your reasoning behind the Jag tunnel now that I've seen pictures.
Yikes! Looks like a an oak of some sort! How bad was the roof damage?
While were were putting in an addition about 4 years ago, my neighbor had a tree that had been leaning over towards our house. I had asked him multiple times if he'd cut it down, but he said an arborist certified it safe. Th tree was a huge cyperus that had the top cut off about 20 years earlier to the point that every side limb became a new top! One snapped off two weeks after my new gutters went up, crushed a ten foot section of an 8 foot redwood fence, landed on top of our hot tub smashing it, broke two window panes and took out a new section of gutter on the roof. The neighbor, didn't want to go thru an insurance company, so I had to get everything individually bid for him, and eventually replaced. He did cut the tree down afterward! The damage was about 5k at the time, but the scary part was my wife and I had decided to go out to visit some friends that day, otherwise we'd be dead, since that was the time of day we used the hot tub! Hope no one got hurt when that monster came down!
It was actually a hardwood pine tree that was probably at least 50 years old (I'll find out when I cut into it). It fell around 1:30 in the morning and managed to not inflict much damage where it landed. ....I guess it is a good thing I haven't built a garage yet. It would have been squashed.
I was lucky on the roof too. I only had to replace about a dozen shingles.
Estimates are that we got hit with 90 mph winds....the whole neighborhood is a mess.
This tree is kicking my tail. ...but it is slowly making its way to the side of the road for the city to pick up.
I bought an electric chainsaw for the job. It works pretty good and is a whole lot quieter...but dragging an extension cord through the tree tops flat out sucks! Once the top is completely gone, the big limbs should go quickly.
