If it runs good I agree, you might have the wrong timing pointer. Time to do the piston stop thing to find TDC and check it against the timing marks.

Did the TDC and the mark is on 0 when I put the Timing chain in I use 0 keyway on the crank gear and had both marks on cam gera and crank gear pointing at each other

Yes the damper (ie) Ballancer mark was on about 12 % when piston reached the very top and 0 when it started back down. This has the Big Ballancer could that be the problem ballancer if it is the wrong being too big troughing everything out of wack when engin is running

when the#1 piston is at TDC the pointer needs to be at O and the damper needs to line up on O on tha tab nothing less will do the damper size has nothing to do with any thing other then gm made two tabs for them and the 8inch dampers had different key way to damper line off sets that needed different timing tabs. are you checking the timming with the vac advance hook up ? that will do it toLast edited by pat mccarthy; 02-22-2009 at 09:23 PM.

I bought the 76 in August , but haven't been able to work on it. When I get a chance I'll post some pictures.
