I found these pics of this truck that gambino customs did, and i must say im in love!! Im not sure what you would call the style, but i was wondering if i could make it work on the panel truck? Watcha think HRP?

It's sort of got that 80's custom van paint scheme doesn't it. Very bold, makes a loud entrance for sure. I like the caddy tail lights!

great looking truck, too bad that Fu@#ed it with that paint...that is one UGLY paint scheme...different paint job and something besides a plywood bed and you gotta nice truck

I like it, I would not paint mine that way, but I still like it.
I had a plywood bed in my '47 KB2, but with mine, I pulled 2 pins and my floor would slid out, then I could work on anything under the truck, from the top.
Being different is a good thing.....usually!

In the late '50's and early '60's we called that style "panel paint". Originally it was a means for guys on a budget to put a few selected custom painted panels on an otherwise stock vehicle without doing a complete paint job. Then, as the style caught on, the panels became part of more radical all-over paint schemes. I like this one; the only thing I would change would be a coat of high gloss clear to make it shine. The flat finish is robbing this cool design of the glitz and sparkle it needs to really make it "pop".

To add to Jim's comments, if you're interested in this style you'll want to look up the name Larry Watson, for search purposes probably follow that with custom painter. He was the master of this form.

Gambino did a whole thread on the work . Truck has panel in panel work done . It is a theme and era and colors could be different but the work was fantastic .

Bob im real familiar with Larry`s style, thats probably why i like the truck so much. I think it has a bit of a lowrider stlye to it also, minus the crazy lace patterns in the panels. I guess i could do some searching and find something like this that would work on the panel truck.

I would agree with the other guys....it's "panel paint", with a satin clear.

With nostalgia schemes dominating the hobby, this is a breath of fresh air, but still a similar way of thinking. The flat finish gives a more contemporary feel to what is a classic custom paint style from the late '50s-early '60s.

I like it with the exception of the bright green color choice. That is why it's a little on the obnoxious side....but maybe the owner or painter likes it that way, and it's their project. Even being over the edge, it sure beats "look-alike" paint jobs!

A little research and you could have multiple examples, to help refine your own design.

I like it because it is so obnoxious. Most do colors that blend well, this one screams at you.

Yep, first thing I thought of was it was very much like what Watson turned out. I like it. Some cars beg for a panel job or a scallop treatment.

I think its cooler then most the cookie cutter hot rods you see these days.Probaly the only thing that i woulda done diffrent is the plywood bed,other then that nada.

Yuck!!!! Sure do hope we ain't going down that road again with paint designs..... Nice truck, but IMO the paint kills it..... and everything old is new again....

At least Watson's stuff was shiny....
