I really hope your friend wont have any lasting effects from his injuries - he needs to get well and rebuild that car. Most of it seems to have held up very well and is salvageable.

That failed drilled front axle - my way of thinking, it just confirms what I had felt about them. You take away a bunch of their strength when you put holes in 'em
