rough ride
Hey everyone i have a 1940 pontiac 2 door sedan. When I bought it was already "customized" to be accurate its a rat which i don't mind, obviously I bought it. Anyway its a rough ride rattles a lot I know its what a rat is suppose to do but id like to make it a little quieter and not so shaky. I was thinking of adding in some body mounts seeing as the body is bolted & welded to the frame. Would adding in rubber some other type of padding help? What kind of reinforcement would i need to do? I'm a bit of a novice to hot rods builds, but I am aware of what this job would involve. Any advice is appreciated.

WOW, I guess that's one way to lower the car body on a budget. I think the first thing I would do is to mount some radials and see if that makes the car tolerable.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

Shoot us some detailed pictures of some of the areas like suspension, frame, how the body is currently mounted, etc. Hard to make a recommendation with so little info. It could be a variety of things causing the problem, from bad suspension to improper construction, etc.

There's one thing, if the front coils have been cut it will raise the spring rate making for a harsher ride....

I see this over and over again and wonder what is going through the minds of those who do clip swaps. If you use fixtures to set the control arms at stock height relative to the clip and position the body/frame at the ride height where you want it to end up, you can weld the clip in and have factory geometry with stock springs and everything is lovely.

If you have coils now ,air bags are cheap and install rather nice in thier place ,plus you can play with ride height{spacers} ,then get it aligned properly.Rubber body mounts help too ,take some pics for all to see.......
There are good suspention guys here. Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)
