The best bet is to just cut out the old floor and build a new subframe out of something like 1 x 2 box tubing, then skin it with new 18 or 20 gauge steel to make a whole new floor.


Like Dave said, you want to make the cab very solid to the floor and also braced well so nothing moves around. Removing the doors helps so you can gain easy access to the interior too.

In the old days we would simply torch around the perimeter of the inside of the body and let the body drop down over the frame to the desired level, then weld the floor back in. Thankfully we have come a long ways since those days and now do it much more professionally and stronger.

I will try to get some pictures of the subframe my Son built for my '39 Dodge truck. I think he has some in his computer, I lost mine in a crash. If I can get them I will post them up for you.
