Turlock Swapmeet

Drove up to Turlock for the annual auto swap and show. Turnout was off due to forecast rain. But it turned out to be an ok day, just a little wind. I scored a nice survivor instrument cluster and passenger side unit with clock for my 55 Chevy project.
It always amazes me to see what some expect to get for outright junk! I know original steel is hard to find. But some of these pieces have more bullet holes than steel!! I think you might be better off to just buy a completed project than rescue one of those.
But, if one is patient, nuggets can be found. Sorry, my camera is down, but no real standout cars anyway.

I've heard of that swap meet before, supposed to be a good one.

I think swap meets in general are suffering since Ebay and others have come about. It sure is a cleaner sale than having to sit all day with your stuff, dicker with potential customers, and probably get less than if it was on the internet. But I still love digging around in some guys pile and seeing all of this old stuff spread out.

Some day I want to go to Moultrie Georgia too, and man would it be great to see some of the ones you guys in California have out there.

Yeh, we have some great meets out here. Pleasenton, Bakersfield, Pomona, as well as the others. But they don't call this the GOLDen State for nothing. Still, it's fun to spend the day looking for the "find". What a strange infection we have. You have to have the disease to understand it!

The big swap meet here in Springfield at the end of August is suffering the same fate. It's still a lot of fun to go and just poke around, but the vendors seem to have the most success.

Was hopefully going to go down to Turlok as it is a great swap meet.Unfortunately had to spend the time at home blowing snow.Turlok to me is always the start of the new year.

Got home from the Turlock swap meet last night. I sold $650.00 worth of extra parts I had laying around. Could have made more if I wanted to break a deal I had made while waiting to get in the gate. Sold a guy a pair of skinny ET 5 spoke wheels for $75.00. He paid me for them and was going to pick them up later once we got inside. Another guy comes along when wer'e unloading the trailer and asks about the wheels. I tell him there sold. He asks how much and I tell him. He offers me $400.00 for them. I tell him no. I already made the deal with the other guy. I wasn't going to screw him over to make a few extra bucks. Could have sold 10 pair of those wheels if I had em. They didn't cost me anything and I got what I wanted for them so I was happy. If you make a deal with somebody stick to it. This car hobby isn't about the money. It's about the thrill of the hunt for that special part. Building and driving the cars and the people you meet and the new friends you make.
