As light as that rod is it still will run good with that XE262H CAM and your 279 gear . And I sill think the 2800 stall is better for your set up . 1600 lbs you are better off with a 305 . With a 350 that car would be like a street rail . With the 305 it will run 12s .

Om my 305 I bored it .060 over with the XE 262 cam with the dual plane intake and 600 cfm carb. Ran great and a little over 300 HP. Also ran a 3 deuce set up with 3 rochester carbs and that ran even better, but now am running 2 500 edelbrock carbs and have yet to test them. Probably toomuch carb but have to wait till spring to find out. I think the 305 is a great little engine and can be made to perform and keep up with your stock or slightly built 327 and some 350's. Course thats just my 2 cents.

What cylinder heads are you running on your 305? And are they ported out ?

I have been running stock heads that I ported but I just put on a set of Sportsman ll which should increase my HP and torque by 40-50. Next is a gear chage to 3:55 and should be able to get into the low 13's with it.

I.M.O.,those heads are about 3 sizes to big for your 305.
Did someone recommend those large heads??

Eric My engine was bored to 315(not much bigger than stock) but a friend of mine who rebuids engines gave me a set of world sportsman heads with 190cc intake runners and 72cc fast burn chambers. He said they should work with my engine. I hope the hell there not to big because I really don't feel like changing heads again in my cold garage.

I am not sure what heads you have.
World Sportsman are not 190 cc's they are 200 cc's as cast.
I don't know of any cylinder head company that makes a head that has a port volume of 190cc's.

Eric Your right. I was going to buy a set of AFR high torque cylinder heads which are rated at 190 cc, but got these for nothing except a trade for a set of 327 heads. They are 200 cc like you mentioned. Are they to big for my engine?

Yes,the 200 cc heads are to big.
I would think a set of Dart Iron Eagle heads with a 165 cc port would be much closer or a set of World S/R torquer heads with a 170 cc port volume.

These heads are like a really good double hump head but are a much heavier casting with hardened valve seats.
Your torque and hp should increase.

Thanks Eric. I have a set up camel heads(double) from a 327 engine. Might try these before I buy something newer. I just talked with my buddy and he says that the 200 cc heads will work ok but I will loose alot of torque. That's not what he told me before I put them on.

I think your stock ported 305 heads are just right for your set up . You can go to a larger 1.94 intake valve . This will help ! I did see a flow test on the world S/R 305 Torquer heads . And they flowed less then mild ported 305#416 heads . With the right port work done to your 305 heads they will flow 190 to 195ccs . And the 305 heads are 55 to 58cc This should be good for .5 CR over 64cc and 1.0 CR over 72cc heads . COOL
