    U also need to be sure of the grounding of your particular car. Is it Positive ground or Negative ground.
    If it is positive ground u will have difficulty putting in a radio made today.

    An inverter should take care of that problem besides the voltage difference.

    i guess it's negative ground.
    the chassis is plug to the negative pole on the battery
