    Odessy Battery

Any of you guys using the odessy dry cell battery with a 350 chevy. I am considering pc925 mounted in the trunk. I want to use this for space reasons.

I am using their smallest battery, the PC680 due to space limitations. Haven't fired the car up yet, but from conversations with the factory guy, and also from Ken Thurm on here, I feel confident it will be a terrific battery. Ken recently reported that his battery "cranks like a 24 volt one, and recharges very quickly" (I'm paraphrasing Ken) That made me feel pretty good to hear that.

The guy I spoke with at the factory (forget his name) was one of the head guys, and spent a lot of time explaining them to me. He said they developed the Optima batterys, but that Optimas have an inherent flaw......the dead space between the round cells contributes nothing to the battery function. By eliminating the need for that space, the Odyssey battery can be more compact and efficient. I know some of it was self promotion, but he came across as very knowledgable.

I think I made the right choice. Here is the one I'm using, and they use this same tiny battery to fire even BBC engines, he told me.

I don't have one myself but know of a couple of people who use them and have done so for several years. Have heard no complaints and I am considering using one myself when my current battery dies.

I have two Odyssey batteries that start a 350 Chev. The pair (primary and a backup) are six years old and show no signs of weakening. I may replace them in a year or so just because. They are great batteries! The only drawback is that you will make the battery box the size of the Odyssey and, when you have to eventually change it, you can only put an Odyssey in its place!! They are certainly worth the cost difference from an Optima

I like the dry cell idea of the Odyssey plus the size. My current battery is under my car and the only way to access it is by putting the car on a lift..... or rolling it over on it's side. (Use to do that to change my rear tire on my m/c....never any fun.)

The Odyssey should open new possibilities for mounting.

You are right, and for that reason my Son talked me into making my battery box a bolt in rather than the weld in I was building. He said if they stop making that battery I would be up a creek, and he had a good point.

BTW, I bought mine from these guys, and the price was super and it came in a few days. They were also extremely helpful on the phone.

Some good info on that site Pops. Looks like they've expanded the line since the last time I looked. I got to thinking about that 680 and wondered what would be the space comparison to the 925 with the 925 on it's side. Looks like it would be very similar, but just over 1 3/4" "thicker". Then lo and behold I see in their charts they've made a 925 that's labeled in the "on it's side" configuration. That extra thickness could be offset by more direct cable routing so would be virtually the same overall space requirement as the upright 680. Just a thought.

I've got a couple 925's, they're great. Know lots of guys up in our neck of the woods who've switched from Optimas. Seems the Optima doesn't like to run down (say in winter storage as an example), and then try to recharge. Too often it wouldn't take. Personally I keep the toy car batts on a tender charger when in prolonged disuse and they just keep on keepin' on.

I ran an Odessy 925 for a couple of years, worked well until I installed a high-watt sound system. Since then I've had go a different direction.
