I just picked up another "project"...

Don't ask me why... I guess because it was a good deal. I just bought a 1949 F-1 Ford Pickup. It's all apart and the chassis is started with a TCI MII front and rear leaf spring suspensions. The guy who started it is a friend and he just bought a new Mustang GT and decided he didn't need the truck project.
I am planning to get it running with a small block and 700R4. It comes with an S10 rearend also.
I picked up a 350 and 700r4 from another buddy and he dropped them off last night. I hope to get the truck picked up next week sometime but that will depend on time available.
I really don't know where I'll find the time to work on this thing but it is a lot less involved then the van and, once I get the frame cleaned and painted, it will basically be a bolt together project...
I do need some front fenders so, if any of you know where a decent pair is to be found, give me a holler...

Sounds like this one will come together pretty quick, and make you a nice driver. The basics are all there, and some of the hard work is already done. Post some pictures of the project as it goes together. How's the other one coming BTW?

sbc I was a young man in 48, but as well as I can remember those 48 Fords came with a pretty Kool engine, and trust me, it was not a sbc.

Sounds like a fun project but....I'll have to go with Jack on the anti-sbc thinking. How about a y block or a newer Ford modular? Post some pics!

Sorry guys... I am keeping this one simple and cheap. I have the engine and trans and the truck comes with TCI mounts. Now, if you want to give me $2200.00 dollars you can build it however you like.

Geez Mark, we weren't trying telling you how to build your ride. We all agree, its yours and you should build it the way you want. We were just offering ideas, not giving orders.
Keep us posted on your progress, and you know we love pictures.

I got some pics after getting the Ford home Tuesday nite and I know ALL of you guys are chomping at the bit to see these...
The only thing attached to the frame is the cab and the upper control arms... We strapped a pallet (with casters) to the front frame so we could pull it up onto the roll back to get it home.
We stuck the stock rear suspension back on with one bolt in each hanger so we could move it.
The TCI front suspension and rear leafs should make this dude ride like a car...
I ordered an Eastwood chassis black paint kit this morning and will start getting the frame ready by removing the cab and running board brackets.
I need to get the motor and trans mounts mocked up but that's pretty straight forward and won't take long to do.

    Thanks for looking

I have made some progress on the '49...
I set the "chevy" engine and trans in place last weekend and am working on the engine and tranny mounts. I will have the engine mounts welded in later today (am at work right now...) and will start pulling the cab so I can have free access to the trans and frame to start building the crossmember. I had to cut the old trans xmbr out and I have to remove the rest of it by drilling out rivets.

I am going to do a little more trimming on the engine mounts to move the engine another 3/4's of an inch forward.

This is the drivers side with the shorty header in place...

    Thanks for looking

I ordered an American Autowire Highway 15 kit from paradise Road in Indiana. They had a killer special on them along with free shipping so I saved myself about 70 bucks! Thanks Paradise Road!]

The AAW kits are very complete, right down to new ignition and headlight switches, and will make getting this truck wired up and running pretty simple...

There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this thread but I'll post an update to bring everyone up to speed.
I picked up a "donor" truck for my F-1 project last weekend. It is mostly complete and has all of the little pieces I need to get mine fleshed out. All of the window glass is good, the grille is nice and very usable, and even the upper and lower valances look good. The donor also came with a bunch of fiberglass fenders, fronts and rears and has the 351 Cleveland 2V and auto trans I asked about in another thread. It will get pretty well stripped before it leaves the driveway...

It even has a "bucket" seat...

By the way, an update on the project truck has the motor mounts tacked in and the cab removed for access to the tranny crossmember and the floor. It's coming along slow.
    Thanks for looking

Ahh... no. The 'glass fenders came "off the truck", as in not assembled yet...
I'll get some pics, I didn't take the time this weekend.
I did get the trans crossmember mostly built though. Too many family things going on or I would have had it finished yesterday.
I got the center section fabbed and the drops made. I still have to tack and finish weld the center to the drops but it's all downhill from here.

Here are some pics of where the truck is at right now...
The cab is off and sitting on it's back on a pallet.

It won't take a lot to get it cleaned up painted.

The trans crossmember is all fabbed, I just need to get it welded up. Haven't had the energy to do much during the week.

Once the crossmember is done I can pull the chassis around to the other side of the shop where the "real" work will get done. The engine and trans will get pulled and power washed and the chassis will get put on the rotissirie for finish welding, cleaning and painting.
    Thanks for looking.
Added a pic of the 5" diameter stacks that will go vertically, behind the cab... What do you think?
