Bobby- I've taken some pics, but with dial up, getting any online is a huge pain. I will hopefully get the patience to upload some soon. I farmed out some welding on the frame and would really like to get all the frame/suspension parts cleaned up, painted, and put back together before the end of the year. Thanks for asking!

I used a cup style, knotted wire brush on an angle grinder to get all of the "loose" rust off. No need to grind it. The converter works best when there is some rust left on the surface. I knocked off all of the loose stuff, blew the surface off with air and threw on the rust converter.
Granted, it is no show surface when you are done, but that is not my intention with this truck.
With it on the body cart I can finish cleaning up the inside of the doors and start the wiring process while I am getting the chassis ready. I bought a bunch of wire brushes and stuff to start doing that at Harbor Freight Saturday...
This week I'll try to get the chassis set up at ride height and get the tires and wheels mocked up. I think I will be doing a notch in the back to get the rear down where I want it. The pro street tires will make it sit pretty tall so I will be flipping the rear axle (Blazer) up on top of the leaf springs and probably running a 1" block. That will require notching the frame for axle clearance.
Very interesting build.....

Back from the dead thread.... It's been three years since I started this thread (OMG!) I can hardly tell you how fast the time has gone.
I am working on the truck! Tried to sell it this summer, no takers, so I decided to get off my hind end and put it together. It helps that I had worked just two Saturdays all summer. Got some other stuff done and recharged the batteries a bit.

This is what I have done in the last three weeks.
I put the chassis on the rotisserie and cleaned it up with a knotted wire wheel on a grinder. WICKED!
I rust converted and painted the chassis last weekend with Eastwood chassis black.
The Chassis brackets, trans xmbr and shock xmbr have been sandblasted and to the powder coaters and back.
I have sand blasted, primed and painted the front control arms.
I installed the shock xmbr and chassis brackets today.
I installed the rear springs temporarily today.
I debated about raising this thread from the dead but I have gotten a lot done the last couple of weekends and was hoping you guys would like to see it...
I also did some backyard engineering to build a dust collector for my blast cabinet. Worked pretty slick for what it is...
I got all of the chassis brackets and control arms blasted and either out to the coaters or painted in less then a day...
I got a killer deal on the powder coating! $50 to do 8 pieces. The four spring brackets, two leaf spring plates, the trans xmbr and the shock xmbr... Couldn't hardly paint them for that...
Hey,keep it going astro..its lookin ok..that cab has got to be one of the nicest I have ever seen..You need to see the old rusty,worn out old pickup cabs we have down here..Whipped within an inch of their lives,,and then driven hard some more..:LOL:That will look kool when done..

Every so often it would occur to me that we hadn't heard from you for a while, and I wondered what you were up to. Glad to see you posting again, and the frame looks great.
I agree 100% with you about having stuff powdercoated vs painting them. We just took 33 pieces to the coater and a week later they came back all nice and shiny black............$ 198.00. Couldn't have painted them for that and it was no muss, no fuss. That is the best part.

Thanks guys and Don, thank you, that's nice to know. Work was absolutely crazy last year. I worked 100 straight days, from Memorial day to Labor Day. I will not do that again, believe me.
Got some more assembly done Sunday. Assembled all of the bushings to the control arms and got those bolted up to the chassis.
I got this done while fixing some rust on the rear quarters on my daughters '98 Grand Am...
i ordered a brake line kit from TCI today. I hope to have the chassis rolling around by the end of the month.
Welcome back. Glad to see the project going again. Mine tend to sit idle for extended periods too so don't feel alone.

Well what an awesome cab and chassis you started with,heck I would like that in my garage. So now tell us after three years have you decided to lose the exhaust stacks up the back,IMHO pickups don't suit them, but I do realize it is your project. And to bring a smile to all our good friends here, the only way to make a Ford to go, is put a Chevy in it.:LOL::LOL::LOL:
