    1967 427 Fairlane shock towers

I just bought a 67 Fairlane 427 XL and I hope someone can answer a question for me. There are some holes drilled in the shock towers and I'm wondering if they are factory. There are three drilled on the passengers side and two on the drivers side and they are about an inch in diameter. They aren't near the area where trusty mechanics used to blow them out with their torches to grease the upper control arms. They are located on the face of the towers near where possibly the exhaust manifold bolts would be located. The engine is out now so I'm not sure. I know there are some knowledgable people on here so any help would be great. Thanks guys!

From what I've read yes those are factory and drilled for access and clearance to the exhaust manifold bolts. The 427's only had the vertical pattern on the heads. That's part of the reason the CJ and GT used the 14 bolt pattern. No holes in the towers and easier to service. If there is such a thing as easier? LOL

Nice ride tho!! Tell me more about the car please!

Thanks FFR it had me puzzled. They didn't look factory so I wasn't sure. I guess it was a running fix on the assembly line. The car is really nice it has only 12000 original miles on it. It still has the original side oiler med. riser engine with it and was just rebuilt and dyno'ed at 500 hp at the crank. The color is Brittany Blue with the blue interior. I was hoping to get it together for the stock appearing drags at Englishtown NJ in June but that won't happen. Its a pretty awesome piece of Ford history and I can't wait to finish it up. Thanks again FFR!!!

Wow that sure sounds nice!! That's one rare Ford too. Maybe Englishtown next year? I'm hoping to have my ride together by then also. Dover has been closed for years here in CT so it's either NJ or Leb Valley in NY. But I have lots to do before that. I know the guys here www.fordfe.com would like to hear about your car. A few Fairlane 427 owners hang there and they can tell you lots more besides. Good luck and yes please post a few pics if ya can. So Dave and I can drool on our keyboards.

I had a new 66' 427,the holes are factory access to to the header bolts as you thought. If Factory cast iron headers are used you can use a long extension to remove the bolts that you can't get at with a normal wrench.
