There is a quote I heard once: "When I was a kid I thought my dad was one of the dumbest people on earth... The older I get, the smarter he was!" Is that a true statement or what?
I was 22 when my dad died (at age 56); I'm 59 now and I still don't believe I could match him for plain old "good common sense".
I had 3 older sisters and they like to drove my poor ol' man nuts when they were teenagers. He tried to be fairly strict with them about being home on time, doing homework, not getting serious with the boyfriends, etc. Poor guy was just outnumbered... By the time it was my turn, I think they had worn him down until he just sort of let me "do my thing" as long as I didn't do anything illegal.
The way things are nowdays (remember, I'm a high school teacher and see LOTS of kids every day) I am glad I don't have a daughter. I would be scared to death FOR her. We only had one son (now age 32) and he turned out to be a good person. I don't know, sometimes, if it was because of us or in spite of us that he turned out OK, but he has made us proud and he's also a good friend...

I bet being a teacher you see stuff that makes you shake your head. Parenting has become somewhat of a lost art. I see kids that don't know how to even speak to a grownup, and Parents who don't have a clue about how to teach them right from wrong.
I was walking down the aisle at Publix one day, and there were two girls there, about 14 or 15. Nice looking youngsters, but when I heard them talking every other word was the F bomb. I stopped in my tracks and stared at them in disbelief, and it was as if I wasn't even there. They just went on laughing and swearing up a storm. Where the heck are their parents?? All that they have prepared these girls for is failure, in finding a nice guy, good job, etc.
Too many Parents have turned the raising of their kids over to the TV set, computer, and their teachers. And we wonder why the crime rate is so high and why society is going downhill.
And if I hear the term "Baby Daddy" one more time..............
