    Okay, old timers and Detroit Iron fans. I need help understanding some basic physics as it deals with new (read: ricer) technology.

    No flames, please.

    I want to put a rear wing or spoiler on my Mustang II. What I'm thinking is something along the lines of the late-model (and '70-73 fastback) Mustang wings. Two things I want to remedy here -- first is that the back end of the car is even uglier than the front (I don't know how it's possible but it happened -- with the stock rear deck it looks like a Monza); the second is that this is a damned light car and any help keeping the rear wheels down is welcome.

    I've read the comments about ricer wings and heard all the jokes about ricers putting rear spoilers on FWD cars.

    Would a taller wing -- even like those aluminum monstrosities pinned to the backs of lowered 4-door Acuras -- help me get traction from a dig or while accelerating? If so, what would help the most? The standard rear air dam / trunk lid spoiler that came stock on the II and the Camaros of the early 70's, an aluminum ricer wing, or a late-model Mustang spoiler?

    Also, I'm open to imaginitive solutions to the ugly @ss end / downforce problem. Pic attached (I hope.)

    Bernoulli figured this one out before ricers were invented. :lol:

    What speeds are you looking for help? If it's less than 70 or so, you won't get much with a wing unless it's huge.

    A wing gives you nothing from a standing start. The faster you go, the more a wing can help - but only if properly shaped and set at the correct angle of attack. The Mustang II, late Mustang and Camaro wings may have helped at very high speeds (100+), but were mainly cosmetic. (Gotta look like racers, ya know.)

    If you want hold the rear end down on acceleration, you'd be better off to look at your rear suspension setup.

    Cool. I pretty much figured as such. If there's no difference / advantage, I'll throw down for a set of traction bars and keep searching for a stock Cobra deck lid.

    Yea, what Henry said. On most street cars, the car would never know the factory spoiler was there- unless your on the salt flats. Those ricers crack me up with the big aluminum wings. If they do anything at all, it's slow them down. I guess the coffe-can mufflers are supposed to compensate for this? LOL

    Anyway, nice looking car, and the T-tops are a plus. I'd go with an old Mach 1 looking spoiler, but you will surely have to cut it down length-wise. Cervinis (sp) or an equivelant company might still offer body peices for that year...I know the 79' and up are still readily available.

    As for getting it to hook up, I too would look at suspension upgrades.

    That stang is begging for a superbird type rear spoiler,people wouldnt know if they should wind their watch or comb their hair when they saw it.-----course thats just my opinion Ives rdhotfrd

    I too plan to put a wing on my project. I think the back of a 70 camaro needs a little help. I have an Ed Quay wing in the box in the attic.

    Technically, I guess it would B a spoiler............... but @ least it's on a rear wheel drive car.
