65 Skylark gs ADVICE
I have a 65 skylark gs thats an origanal 4 speed car[Borg n Warner T-10.] I'm sure all the numbers match, its a 1 owner car. It has a small block 300 and the body is in really good shape. There's no interior at all.Have all the chrome and its in exellent shape. Should I keep it origanal, and restore it ?I really want to put this hostile chevy 350 4 bolt motor in there. Also, what happens if you just save all the origal parts for a later time. Or should I just sell it and buy another car

Keep the skylark. Its the same bassis car as a chevelle ,lemans ,cutlass,442 or gto.You dont see one every where you go. Its nice to be a little different. Its Your car,Do whatever you want with the motor, but I would save the old one. If it were mine I would be thinking small block chevy or a fairly stock 455 buick. That might have even more appeal.

If the body is good I would build it. The interior (seats, door panels etc.) from any mid size gm from 64-65 will fit and even 66-67 with some mods. For Chevy, You will need Chevelle V-8 frame mounts. Then everything will bolt in. The original trans for these cars is a Muncie, not a Borg-Warner. The 300 engine has little available for speed equipment. The ten bolt rear will probably be the weak link. But, even that can be worked out.

I like the 455 idea, too. Of course you could be really different and put a 3.8L turbocharged engine out of a Grand National. It should bolt in as I think the odd fire V-6 version was the standard engine in the '65 Special/Skylark. Keep your Buick a Buick.---Tom

Thanks guys! It's been a long road. Fun doing finishing work for sure. Getting the dash ready for paint and some interior trim. Have to do some finish work on the aluminum headliner before...
