    Looking for a weight guestimate!!

Ok.... I am looking for an educated guess on what my 55 chevy weighs. Here is the setup... 55 Chevy, short bed pickup. Un Chopped, factory frame (boxed in), 12 bolt rear with 30x14 tires. Engine is a 396 Block, iron heads, 6-71 blower, and it has a turbo 400 trans. I was thinking it would weigh about what a new lightning does which is around 4800lbs... What do you guys think? Also if so inclined... what would you anticipate for 1/4 mile and 1/8th mile times with 500 horsepower, and 4.10 gears? I am really not used to running this kind of setup, so I am a little out of my knowledge base. I did have a Lightning that was 490 rear wheel horsepower that ran low 12's on street tires, so I am guessing it would be around the same.

It is street legal, I traded my drag car for it... I am new to the whole street rod thing. I would take it to the truck stop, but we have a bunch of snow on the ground here, so I wont be driving it until spring time.

If it dont run at least low 13's I am gonna be really dissapointed!!! My 8000 lb diesel pickup runs 13.8 and it is only 410 rear wheel horse. This truck is over 500 horsepower, and weighs 3000 lbs less. I dont think there is any reason why it shouldnt run with my old lightning! But anyway, if it dont, it will be time to put her up from 7 psi to about 15... It should go then!!! It does have plenty of bottom end, 4340 steel crank, eagle rods, trw blower pistons... etc. And turns out cam size is a .598 lift.

You'll have to excuse everything being so dirty in the pic... That is before I got the truck and had a chance to change a few things over!!!

With a conservative HP estimate @ 5200 lbs by calculations it should run a 12.7 @ 108 mph. And if there is one thing I can do, it is drive a drag car, so I should be able to get it into the 12's if the weight is correct. With the bottom end in the motor, and the supercharger, 600 horse can be had without a problem. So if the chassis can take the power it should be capable of a 11.9 @ 114 mph on pump gas and an ez-street tire. By the way @ 5200 lbs a 14.2 is around 350 horsepower.

It is a 396 block that has been bored to 402 cubic inches!!! (I guess ya didnt think of that) I wanted a weight questimate so I could calculate 1/4 mile times. But having raced for 9 years, I know how much gear ratio's can change the E.T. so I asked to see if someone may have run a similar combination.

I guess there is always one on every forum who already knows everything!

Got me beat!!! My best was 6.98 @ 197 mph. That was at 1800 lbs. 225" Slip Joint RED, 475" Chevy, with a little nitrous to help it along the way. Best ET with no juice was only a 7.70!

4.90 @ 318 mph...... Jet Funny Car? Seems like too much MPH for a Top Fuel with that ET, Possibly a Nitro Funny Car with some good top end.... Which is it? Also what is your name, I know some guys running Nitro Funny Car.

By the way, I am not trying to be a dink, but apparently I do not know everything or I wouldnt have asked a question... But with my background you cant B.S. me about drag racing because you will loose! I may only be 24 years old, but I have accomplished more in motorsports than most people twice my age, yet I am still in my prime! But because of certain things that I cannot control, my focus has shifted from Drag Racing, to my career in MX and Sno-X, as well as my career in engineering. This move has caused me to sell my drag car and buy a "Street Machine" as you call it, and since I am new to the whole scene, I decided to talk to some people who know more about it than myself!

Asking the weight of a 55 chevy pickup with a big block isnt that vague, that is why I wanted a guess.... Sorry about the spelling of the last post.... That is what happens when you type fast and dont read what you write. And it dosnt matter how much money I have, I am not going to take my truck out in the snow and salt just to see what it weighs. A simple guess in weight would have been fine. Comments like it aint a real street rod, and youd be lucky to run 14's just irritate me. I didnt come on here to have people badmouth me, or my ride, but that seems to be what I am getting. From now on, if you dont have anything that pertains to my question, dont bother to write.
