......well, this brings up the topic again about what qualifies as a muscle car, huh?
As I said the other night that I believe anything prior to '71 qualifies. So I'll vote for the Ford Cobra's. Light body with 427 cubic inches.... or the Hemi Cuda???.... hummm, are we talking the actuall overall weight or the best power to weight ratio??? Bill....
hmmm, now that I see what YOUR driving King Cuda, I'll bet your right up there with the 'best' of them!!! A 440 in a light weight Cuda ;) ....
427 cobra, hands down :3dSMILE:
I'm thinking the Sunbeam Tiger came in 2nd.
...Yeah the Sunbeam Tiger! I was thinking about that one. I used to hang out with a guy that had one. What motor was in it? I remember it had a small block but don't remember. What it was? 289 Ford? 260 Ford? Help my memory ;)..... Bill...
bill, the mk I and mk II had a 260, the 67 Mk IIB (last year) had a 289. They would fly. Especially if you put in a decent cam and a 4 Barrel and intake.
Thanks Duane, Yeah my memory of the '60's is not so good. So it either had a 260 or a 289. I do remember it was fast....... Bill....
I agree with Charlie, for a regular production muscle car, the 66 Nova with 327/350 hp would be my pick. I believe they ran NHRA A/Stock, so that would be an indication.
Except for the factory super stockers, the the Hemi Cudas were not all that light. Probably between 3300-3500 pounds
Pat
Streets, I don't usually disagree with ya, but the Factory 64 Thunderbolts came with a 427 highriser, and though they were light weight, they weren't that light. Closer to 2800 pounds. They only made 100 of them and I doubt very many of them ever made it to the street. Now the A/FX cars might have been closer to the weight you mentioned and I know some of them had SOHC motors, but those were not production cars.Quote:

As always, my sig line applies :) :D

I raced many of the cars we are talking about and since I don't consider the Thunderbolt a production car.....I can tell ya that I had more trouble with one car than all others.......the Nova with the Nascar 396 in it that baby could fly.and wasn't very heavy either. 396/375 made for a very nasty car':whacked:
I'd have to put my money on a Griffith. They were only made a couple of years. They came with a 289 Ford engine and were downright scary. A friend had one with the 271 horse 289. Probably the ugliest car ever made but it was awesome.
They were later made with Chrysler engines.
Just a new guy putting in his 2 cents.

I agree with Troglodyte that the big block Nova was fast, when done properly. But, they were not light. My COPO weighed in at 3602 lbs. Measured on accurate scales. About two weeks after I took delivery. Had to really put her on a DIET!
I drove an Iso Griffeth once. MoPar powered one. It was verrrry impressive.
Hey, don't I know you????Quote:

Are you that guy with the big badd Yellow 1960 Chevy that runs up at New England Dragway. The guy that's going from a laughing gas 406 to a huge big block?
The guy that lets me park next to him sometimes?
The guy that in spite of himself has a son that is a good kid?
No I don't know you.
