Kool Deadwood Nights in Deadwood SD

WOW! Just got back from one of the most fun car shows I've been to. Kari and I took Rita to Kool Deadwood Nights this past week and it was a ball. We pulled our Ranger up there too so we could go riding in The Hills for a bit and use it while Rita was parked in Deadwood. They were expecting from 800-1000 cars in a town of 1500 people, but a lot of entertainment. There was several people from Texas, a few from California ( who were apologizing for that ) There was free bands on main street, we watched Peter Noone from Herman and the Hermits sing one night, he's pretty good. On Friday you could choose to go on a cruise through Spearfish Canyon or a cruise to Sturgis Speedway to do some 1/8th mile runs, we chose the Sturgis run. We put about 1000 miles on Rita without any problems so that was good! Here is a link to me loosing on the track, I ran a 9.8 @ 72, it was fun, I have never been on a track before. I'll load a bunch of pics for you.

Before I try to load a bunch of pics, how do you put a description under the pictures like I see others do? I can never figure that out.

After you upload your files you'll have a string of characters, [ATTACH]file name[ATTACH][ATTACH]file name[ATTACH], one for each picture you've uploaded. Click between the brackets where the two [ATTACH][ATTACH] meet, and hit ENTER to break the string and add room for text. I usually put a "DASH", hit ENTER again and start adding the text I want between the pictures, then add another "DASH" to create a space before the next picture. If you hit "PREVIEW" and find that your pictures are out of order, or you want them in a different order simply highlight the "[ATTACH]file name[ATTACH]" for the one you want moved and drag it where you want it in your lineup.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Seth,
I did confirm this morning that the display & approach on the phone is the same, just smaller, so breaking the string of picture files between the brackets works on the computer or phone. And BTW, your PM Inbox is full and can't accept any messages until you purge some.

Thanks for all the pics Seth. Looks like you had a great time. I've done a couple trips through So. Dakota and Deadwood, Badlands... when ever I travel through there I think of our fore fathers doing that trip in a wagon pulled along by oxen.

You and I both think that, It's unbelievable how much different we have it than they did. And to be honest, I cannot help but feel the native Americans really did get the shaft on that whole area, but I guess that's history now.

I get the same feeling going across the Texas Panhandle or Eastern New Mexico headed towards Carlsbad to see the cavern.. The rolling prairie... in a car it happens so quickly - you're in a valley ( bowl) then you're on a peak.. rinse & repeat over & over.. I cannot imagine the feeling doing it on horseback, or worse a covered wagon! And yes. The natives got shafted on many "deals" from one coastline to the other.

Strange, but we had much the same thoughts as we crossed some of the more barren countryside in the US of A.
We were told that in some of the worst/driest areas people very often had to wait, sometimes for weeks, for rain, to ensure that they would have water for themselves and stock at their next stopping point.
And we too thought that those old-timers, and in many cases their families, must've been both tough and tenacious.
I've been around cattle pretty well all my working life, and I know I wouldn't like to face a drove like that.
I never knew them or their descendants, but i sure as hell admire them.
