Had to say goodbye to Chip this morning

After 13 yrs is was time to put Chip to sleep. The last 4 days he wouldn't eat or drink and this weekend he would never lay down because then he couldn't breath. I took him in knowing what the news was going to be, failing heart and lungs. I'm sure going to miss the little guy Rest in peace Chip.

Sorry you lost him. I have a 12 year old and know that day is coming soon. Losing them is difficult but know you made the right decision. Keep the happy days with him in your memories.

It's always sad to lose a dog.
I've had working dogs all my life. They'll work their heart out for you all day and all they want in return is a warm dry place to sleep, food, and the occasional cuddle and pat.

Actually, my dogs kept me working too. If I was feeling tired and sat down on a log for a ciggie break the dog thought: "Dad has sat down! That means I can reach him for a cuddle!" And they'd cuddle in as close as they could get.

And it's a proven fact that the lovingest dog is the wettest.
So I didn't stay sat down for long.

And yeah; it's always sad when they go. I feel for you Seth.

(And strangely enough the first dog I ever had was named for the other side of the coin to your Chip. He was a collie huntaway and I called him Dale.)

Losing a pet is tough. Funny how they can get under your skin. I feel your pain.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My wife Chris does embroidery, folks get their dog pics done as a memorial, here's one she's doing now. If you'd like, I can ask her about doing Chip?

And I know the pain of losing a pet, Our first dog hit me hard and it took a long time to get past that... our shepard is 14 and its hard for her to walk up or down the stairs.. I'll be crushed when that day comes for her.

Here's our newest addition "to the herd".. another Sheltie.

Thanks guys, I'm not going to lie, I was sobbing in the vet clinic, he was the best dog ever. My wife and I talked about a few months ago because we were starting to see the writing on the wall, and we were thinking that we would't get another dog. It would free us up to get up and leave overnight or whatever and not find someone to take care of our dog. I don't know how long that decision is going to stick because I've always had a dog to greet me on the yard when I get home and I think I'll really miss that and having a helper around the yard.

That was quite a dog, I'm sure that made you want to go Grizzly hunting after that. I wonder where he came from and I suppose you didn't really know how old he truly was.

Thank you very much for the offer, that is very kind. My mom loved him too and she made throw pillows with his pic on them so we should be good.

What a great name, "Roscoe the Wonder Dog" and a great pic of him also. Shame his end came that way but you have an amazing 12 years of memories. Our cat was like this. Just showed up one day. Been here for 13 years I think.

Man, I'm sorry for both of you're losses. I've yet to go through this as I've only had a dog for the past four years.
